    Department Summary
    University Advancement (UA) supports the University of Oregon's (UO) mission of providing exceptional teaching, discovery, and service by strategically positioning the university to create awareness, build long-term relationships, and secure resources that increase understanding and further its aims. We do this by identifying, connecting and engaging alumni and friends around the globe with their passions to advance the vision and priorities of the university.

    Position Summary
    The Associate Director of Engagement (ADE) serves as a front-line constituent engagement strategist in the Eugene-Springfield region with a goal of identifying and connecting new alumni, parents, friends, donors to the life of the university and expanding existing relationships. In order to establish and cultivate lifelong relationships among UO alumni, parents, friends, etc., the ADE will serve as a representative for the organization's multi-faceted University Advancement mission.

    Reporting to the Director of Regional Engagement, and working closely with Advancement's Community Relations team, the ADE will work in consultation and collaboration with the director; with colleagues in the UOAA and in colleges/schools/units across campus; and with enrollment management, career services, and other partners to advance the regional engagement strategy for alumni, parents, and friends through supporting the regional volunteer chapter, planning events, engaging new audiences, and connecting campus partners with community stakeholders.

    The ADE will coordinate a specific list of constituent relationships, build expand existing networks, and grow new networks of volunteers and supporters who are interested in supporting one or more of the university's many areas of work. They will coordinate closely with staff from various parts of University Advancement and hand off new fundraising prospects to development staff as appropriate. They will support all parts of Advancement's mission.

    The ADE will be focused on the Eugene-Springfield area and will be based in the area. This position may require some travel.

    Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of skills and experience.
  • Two years of professional or volunteer experience in development OR three years of professional or volunteer experience in a nonprofit organization.

    Professional Competencies
  • Ability to identify, cultivate, and engage donors and prospects and build relationships with volunteers and other key constituents connected with the university.
  • Ability to develop strategies for reaching and engaging with prospects and regularly use Advance donor database and other tools to find and update information.
  • Ability to establish collaborative working relationships with colleagues and maintain professionalism when working with others.
  • Strong customer service skills, including the ability to interact with high-level donors and act as a representative of the university.
  • Ability to make a persuasive verbal and written case articulating how the UO distinguishes itself from peer institutions, connecting the interests of university alumni, friends, and prospects to engagement strategies; ability to maintain core campus relationships and familiarity with industry best practices and trends relevant to philanthropy in higher education.
  • Ability to provide feedback to support staff and act as a resource for earlier career team members; ability to represent program interests to leadership, anticipate supervisor expectations, and model strong information sharing practices to and on behalf of the team.
  • Ability to work with volunteers and integrate engagement strategy with volunteer opportunities.
  • Ability to use academic leadership and faculty members in engagement efforts, including representing development needs and ensuring academic leaders understand the role of development.
  • Ability to match pipeline strength, prospect/donor interests, and engagement priorities in strategic planning; ability to articulate how one's individual initiatives and goals fit into programmatic direction and use the unit business plan to address questions about direction and priorities.
  • Commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Ability to interact, communicate, and work effectively with individuals, recognizing and respecting the many and varied identities of each person.

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with the University of Oregon and/or the UOAA.
  • Experience working remotely, or in a setting with limited direct supervision.
  • Experience with fundraising, event planning, and/or alumni relations.
  • Working knowledge of Eugene-Springfield community.
  • Experience with volunteer management in a nonprofit setting.
  • Experience in using social media to engage and connect with an audience.
  • Experience in assessing potential giving capacity and inclination of individuals.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset/approach to new programs/ideas.
