    Department Summary
    The University Health Center (UHC) is a unit within the Division of Student Services and Enrollment Management and is a nationally accredited (AAAHC) outpatient clinic providing primary care to students at the University of Oregon. All staff are required to uphold the mission of the UHC.

    This position works in support of the University Health Center Mission and is consistent with UO policy. Some aspects of this position may be completed in collaboration with other University departments.

    Position Summary
    The purpose of this position is to assist clinical and medical staff in providing acute care, primary care, and preventative care to students of the University of Oregon.

    This position assists with the delivery of excellent patient care by assisting the UHS providers with patient scheduling, transporting, patient check in, performing vital signs, simple procedures and treatments. They also maintain a safe, clean, efficiently stocked environment. Work is performed in different locations throughout UHS in various clinics, examination and treatment rooms and at the main reception desk.

    This position reports to the Associate Medical Director.

    Work Schedule:
    This position works during the academic year. Employment of academic year employees may be extended into the breaks and/or summer term to meet the departmental and/or operational needs of UHS.
    Scheduled hours will include working some Saturdays and may include holidays, to meet the departmental and/or operational needs of the UHC.

    Minimum Requirements
  • Six months experience providing health care support in a health care facility;
    OR
  • Completion of a vocational training program in a health care support area (e.g., Medical Office Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant)

    NOTE: Preference will be given to those applicants who possess a knowledge of medical terminology.

    Special Requirements:
  • Position requires successful completion of a criminal background check and routine screening of Medicaid and Medicare Exclusion Lists. Employee loses eligibility for employment if on the List of Excluded Individuals and Entities (LEIE) and/or System of Award Management (SAM).
  • Must be in compliance with UHC policies regarding tuberculosis screening, measles and mumps (MMR), seasonal flu, hepatitis B, and other immunization requirements.
  • Current certification from a national certifying body for medical assistant/medical office assistant (e.g., American Medical Technologists, American Association of Medical Assistants, National Center for Competency Testing) as a medical aide or medical office assistant, or the ability to obtain by the agreed upon start date of employment.

  • Basic understanding of computers with familiarity in electronic medical records and office software
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others in a team environment
  • Demonstrated experience with and/or commitment to working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, in support of an inclusive and welcoming environment

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Four years' experience as a medical aide in a clinic, hospital or ambulatory care setting including working with an electronic medical record
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) CPR certification or ability to obtain by agreed upon start date of employment
  • Experience in an orthopedic and sports medicine clinic setting, including casting, splinting, and acute musculoskeletal injury triage
