Communications Specialist

University of Notre Dame

The University of Notre Dame (ND.jobs) is accepting applications for a Communications Specialist.

Applications will be accepted until 8/9/2021.

Inspired by Notre Dame's mission, our world-class faculty and students are pursuing globally significant, solutions-oriented research in line with President Jenkins' vision: “A great Catholic University for the 21st century, one of the preeminent research institutions in the world." To that end, Notre Dame Research (NDR) supports and encourages innovation in more than twenty core facilities, as well as in a number of key areas of research, including cancer, environmental change, global health, and many more.

The Notre Dame Research Communications (NDRC) team provides strategic support and guidance, as well as execution, for ND's research communications needs, especially within its 24 reporting units. This role will specifically serve all of NDR by creating videos and producing photos that showcase the many research, scholarship, and creative endeavor outputs from ND's researchers, with the ultimate goal of enhancing the University's research reputation to target audiences, such as faculty and senior administrators as peer universities, prospective postdoctoral scholars, and graduate and undergraduate students, funding agencies and donors, and more.

As a skilled and creative filmmaker and photographer, the Communications Specialist will work to ensure that NDR's communications channels have dynamic, up-to-date, and consistently developing multimedia content that is well-presented, technically accurate, meets target higher education audience needs, and serves the strategies and tactics of NDR's communications vision and mission. In collaboration with NDRC team members, the Specialist will plan for and then create, in a timely fashion, the video and photography assets for use on websites, social media, outreach materials, and more. The Specialist will independently shoot and edit such materials, including managing equipment, prepping interview questions, coordinating with researchers, booking locations, and more. The Specialist will regularly review, evaluate, and report on related data in order to help inform decision-making on future strategies and tactics.

In addition, the Specialist will work collaboratively with ND's central Marketing Communications (MarComm) team on other high-level research video and photo projects. The Specialist will support the development of the videos with MarComm, as well as will plan for strategic photoshoots with MarComm, including identifying need and use of same.

Finally, this collaborative, solutions-oriented problem solver, who has an understanding and appreciation of higher education and research, will work diplomatically as part of the NDRC team to support all existing NDR communications services in order to help to provide central communications and marketing service to all units within Notre Dame Research.
