The Graduate School ( www.graduate.umaryland.edu/ ) at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) is seeking applicants for three 0.8-1.0 FTE non-tenure faculty positions for the Physician Assistant Program. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to classroom, laboratory and online teaching and evaluation throughout cohort matriculation. All faculty are expected to engage in scholarly activities, research, institutional committee service and service to the Physician Assistant profession.

UMB Graduate School appointments are 12-month, renewable contracts and are eligible for promotion. Rules governing such appointments are located at https://graduate.umaryland.edu/policies/ . This position is based at the Arundel Mills Regional Higher Education Center.

FACULTY RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinate student learning activities, provide classroom, laboratory and on-line instruction, and engage in student assessment of knowledge, skills and behaviors during the didactic and clinical phases of the program.

Develop, facilitate, and evaluate learner-appropriate activities for the demonstration of hands-on technical and clinical skills ability in the lab and simulation suite during the didactic and clinical phases of the program.

Assist in the development of new courses, course syllabi, objectives and learning outcomes to comply with changes in accreditation requirements, university structure and program philosophy.

Serve as an academic advisor for PA Program students.

Participate in perspective student application, interview, and selection processes.

Assist with the preparation of ARC-PA accreditation reports.

Represent the program at national, state, local, and institutional meetings.

Engage in scholarly activity, research and service to the program, university, and physician assistant profession.

Actively pursue continuing education activities as required for maintaining professional qualifications.

Maintain clinical competency by continuing to serve as a medical doctor or physician assistant on a flexible basis.

Other duties as assigned by the Program Director.

Qualifications :

Doctoral degree in Medicine with eligibility for Maryland licensure and completion of an accredited medical residency program in one of the following: Internal Medicine, Family Practice, Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, Women’s Health, Behavioral Health, or

Master’s prepared Physician Assistant from a regionally accredited institution with current NCCPA certification. A doctoral degree or active pursuit of a doctoral degree is highly preferred.

Minimum three years’ clinical experience in discipline with expertise in primary care is required.

Strong interpersonal abilities with excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with students, staff, faculty, preceptors, clinical site staff, and organizational administrators is required.

Teaching experience in a formal physician assistant or medical program is preferred. To be considered for the rank of Assistant Professor, candidates must have an exemplary teaching record over the course of at least three years.

Willingness and ability to travel to clinical locations to perform student site visits as needed. Valid Maryland driver’s license is required.
