The Setnor School of Music within the College of Visual and Performing Arts seeks a Part-time Instructor to teach ENC 510 Chamber Music Mixed – JCM Adv Combo/Orange Juice, a zero to one credit hour course, during the fall 2021 and spring 2022 semesters.

Artist/Part-Time Instructor of Jazz/Commercial Instrumental & Vocal Ensembles Qualifications
Relevant academic credentials and experience including: A minimum of a master’s degree in music (jazz or commercial instrumental/voice performance or equivalent experience preferred). Experience teaching jazz and commercial music at the collegiate level. Jazz/Commercial Music/Performance credentials. Significant piano skills required including ability to accompany students in ensemble settings. Jazz/Commercial Instrumental/Vocal Ensemble directing experience. Job Specific Qualifications
The candidate should have strong attention to detail, knowledge of course content, demonstrated pedagogical ability, as well as the ability to relate well in a classroom and one-on-one environment with college-level students. Responsibilities
Being present and instructing Orange Juice meetings ( TBA ) in the Fall/Spring semesters.
Set up performance schedule.
Attend jazz faculty orientation meeting, and jazz faculty meetings throughout the semester (approximately 3 per semester).
Prepare and attend ensemble performances as indicated in School of Music calendar

• Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
• Preparation of lectures, projects or other student assignments.
• Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours.
• Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
• Meeting all designated class periods. If you are unable to meet your class due to illness or emergency, you should exercise your best effort to reschedule the class or to obtain a substitute. You must also notify the department chair of your absence and of your plan to cover the class.
• Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
• Grading student assignments and exams in timely manner.
• Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
• Building a positive rapport with students and other faculty.
