Job Description:
SUNY Orange seeks an accomplished leader with a holistic vision and passion for the mental health and wellness of students to serve as the Director of the Wellness Center.  The Wellness Center is comprised of a team of nurses, mental health professionals, and support personnel whose focus is on health, mental health and wellness promotion and education, crisis intervention, short-term counseling, and referral services.   Through events, workshops and community contacts, the Center staff responds to the needs of students, faculty and staff and actively engages them in fostering healthy behaviors and lifestyle choices.

The Director is responsible for the coordination, implementation and promotion of comprehensive health education, manage pandemic health, mental health and wellness programs for all members of the campus community, including students, staff, faculty and visitors.  The Director of the Wellness Center is a student-centered, culturally responsive individual who will lead our Wellness Center and manage the day-to-day operations and activities. Under the general direction of the Associate Vice President for Student Engagement and Completion, the incumbent provides leadership and program direction of the Center, implements, and assesses programs and initiatives focused on student wellness. The Director assists with providing mental health services to students, and is expected to have knowledge of local and national issues, trends, and best practice standards in college mental health. The Director works with community partners to ensure that students have referral sources beyond the scope of the Wellness Center. The Wellness Center serves students, faculty and staff at both Middletown and Newburgh campus locations.

Requirements:
Education Required: 
Master's degree or higher in a mental health field (i.e. counseling, psychology, social work) and NYS Licensure to provide counseling (LMHC or LCSW).

Experience Required: A minimum of three years mental health counseling and experience delivering culturally sensitive health and/or mental health services to a diverse client population; Must have experience in crisis management and response; two years of demonstrated supervisory experience; excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics: 

  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Psychologist (PhD, PsyD)
  • Three or more years of experience delivering mental health and or health services to students in a higher education setting with a successful record of accomplishment of addressing issues of equity and inclusion with students, faculty, and administrators. 
  • Excellent managerial leadership skills including the ability to develop and implement strategic objectives, to motivate staff, and to effectively manage resources. 
  • Knowledge of local and national issues, trends, and best practice standards in college mental health.
  • Grants management experience. 
  • Experience with Titanium.
  • Fluency in Spanish.

Salary: Commensurate with experience.  This is a 12 month Staff & Chair grade 70 position with a salary range of $56,176 to 74,433 per annum.  SUNY Orange offers a very competitive benefits package which includes excellent low cost health insurance as well as a generous leave policy.
