Tax Faculty, Professional in Residence - Accounting

Position Category: Faculty - Non Tenure Track (FT)

Summary:
The Woodbury School of Business is seeking a Professional in Residence (non-tenure track) for the Accounting department. As assigned by the Department Chair, this position will teach courses related to accounting, in particular, taxation of individuals (ACC 3400), corporations (ACC 6420), and other business entities (ACC 4400). Additional teaching will be based on professional expertise and departmental teaching needs (including, but not limited to the introductory accounting courses). Other assigned tasks may include acting as faculty advisor to one or more accounting student organizations or supervising VITA. Maintains AACSB professional and/or academic category qualifications.

Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a Master’s degree in an accounting or tax-related field is required (JD/LLM satisfies this requirement). A minimum of 5 years of recent professional accounting or tax experience is required.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Extensive knowledge of subject matter and course content of classes to be taught, instructional strategies and techniques related to tax.
  • Extensive knowledge of student management, motivation, and evaluation.
  • Extensive knowledge of the accounting profession.
  • Skills in controlling the classroom environment, engaging students in an organized way that invites learning the details and processes of business topics, especially accounting.
  • Skills in relating to students in a way that engages them with the material being taught.
  • Skills in projecting a love of learning and enthusiasm for the accounting profession.
  • Skills in public speaking.
  • Skills in advising and mentoring students.
  • Ability to organize and structure sequences of learning events and concepts so that students perceive, build, and accomplish class objectives.
  • Ability to lead class discussions, explain principles, and review pedagogical and student performance issues.
  • Ability to motivate students towards an accounting degree.
  • Ability to work effectively with people.


Preferred Qualifications:
A graduate degree from an AACSB accredited institution is preferred. 10+ years of recent professional experience including significant management and supervisory accounting or tax experience is preferred. Current CPA license is preferred.


Physical Requirements:
Sitting, standing, hearing, seeing, talking, fine hand manipulation.
