PROGRAM SUMMARY: KAZU 90.3 FM is a public radio station licensed to the University Corporation at Monterey Bay and is located on the CSUMB campus. POSITION SUMMARY:Under the general supervision of the General Manager, the Underwriting Specialist is responsible for all underwriting activities, securing of financial commitments (underwriting) for KAZU Radio, including HD2Radio and local radio productions and advertisements for any KAZU newsletter or magazines. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:The incumbent will be responsible for the solicitation of underwriters and selling of underwriting for KAZU, and the solicitation of advertisers and selling of advertising for the KAZU subscriber newsletter and other publications. The Incumbent will:
  1. Write underwriting announcements for underwriters.
  2. Create strong, long-term relationships with clients based on good follow-through, stewardship and service;
  3. Input Underwriting Sponsorship sales orders into Allegiance Traffic Software Scheduling system.
  4. Monitor collection of monies owed by underwriters and advertisers;
  5. Help design special events for which underwriting sponsorships may be sold;
  6. Assist the General Manager in the procurement and maintenance of trades for the station as needed.
  7. Serve as ambassador to the business/arts community on behalf of KAZU.
  8. Attend client events, station events and community events as deemed necessary by the General Manager.
  9. Train, and evaluate underwriting assistant/intern as needed.
  10. Participates in KAZU fundraising activities.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:
  1. Performs other duties as assigned by the General Manager.
  2. Promotes and maintains an atmosphere of excellent internal and external customer service within KAZU and the campus community.


PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Typical office environment with standard office and radio equipment and tasks as listed above. Position is required to work at a computer/video display terminal and desk for extended periods of time. Position will require travel between campus offices and off-campus locations within the tri-county area. Must have own transportation, valid driver's license, and auto insurance. This position requires working on campus with students, staff and faculty. The health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff remain our highest priority. In the fall, students, faculty, staff, and the community can expect that masks will be encouraged and that the appropriate degree of social distancing will be in place in all areas based on evolving guidance. Additionally, all students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to be vaccinated before coming to campus. Corporation employees will be required to provide their vaccination status by mid-July through an online portal.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge and ability to be fully functional in all technical aspects of work assignments. Ability to work autonomously. Willingness to be accountable for revenue goals on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis. Must have the ability to work well on a number of projects simultaneously and effectively. Strong communication skills required, including diplomacy, negotiating, writing correspondence and oral presentations to individuals or groups. Must have experience in dealing with businesses, corporations agencies and foundations on a professional level. Ability to compose and edit correspondence and generate standard reports. Must be familiar with personal computers and have demonstrated technical literacy, including proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, electronic mail, data base entry, and maintaining electronic records. Adapts to changes in the work environment; Changes approach or method to best fit the situation; Able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events. Ability to train and supervise student interns and/or volunteers.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience:Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university AND a minimum of 2 years proven and measurable experience in public radio sales, advertising sales or fundraising. Additional experience, which has demonstrated the requisite skills/abilities, may be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:Knowledge of public broadcasting desired. Previous sales experience in the Monterey and tri-County areas highly desirable. Knowledge of Allegiance Public Radio traffic and underwriting software, and Raisers Edge. Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the CSUMB Vision Statement and the core values of mutual respect, collaboration and service orientation, multiculturalism and diversity, community service and institutional excellence. Experience working with a diverse and multicultural population and performing community services; demonstrated technical literacy.

Special Conditions of Employment:
Must be able to work flexible hours. May be required to work some evenings and weekends in support of job function. Demonstrated ability to address the essential functions associated with this position including the knowledge and abilities identified above. Ability to complete and pass web-based training in Defensive Driving. Must continue to meet the established driving standards as a condition of employment.

Compensation and Benefits:
SALARY AND BENEFITS:The University Corporation is committed to providing our employees with a comprehensive program that rewards efforts that are appreciated by your colleagues, students, and the customers we serve. The hourly range for this position is a base of $14.00 and a commission incentive based on the collected sales amounts. The commission incentive percentage may be adjusted periodically based on performance. This is a non-exempt position and as such is eligible for the overtime provision of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Benefits include medical, dental, vision and life insurance benefits, contributory retirement plan, TSA (403b), 13 paid holidays per year and other benefits.
