Director, BEACON

Salisbury University, a member of the University System of Maryland, is a regionally accredited four-year comprehensive institution offering 58 distinct graduate and undergraduate programs. Located on the historic Eastern Shore, SU's beautiful campus is some 30 miles from the Atlantic beaches and 2.5 hours from Baltimore and Washington, D.C., an area with a culturally diverse population with rich cultural experiences.

The Business, Economic, and Community Outreach Network (BEACON) of the Franklin P. Perdue School of Business is seeking applications for the position of Director. This is a 12-month position.

Primary Job Duties: The Director is responsible for all operations of BEACON including the generation of grants and sponsored research projects; marketing BEACON and its services; developing business and community relationships; and promoting BEACON’s image internally and externally. The Director will manage all BEACON activity involving grants, sponsored research, student research projects, consulting work, expert testimony, publishing, data collection, information-based development, and other revenue generation activities. The Director is responsible for the fiscal soundness of BEACON which is expected to be self-supporting within three years.

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in Business or related field (e.g., Industrial-Organizational Psychology) and 5-7 years of related experience. Experience with Small Business Development, Economic Development or related initiatives. Previous responsibility for generating revenues to sustain a business unit.

Must be detail oriented and have excellent interpersonal, customer service, organization and planning, prioritization, problem solving, follow through, time management, and oral & written communication skills. Also, must be flexible and possess the ability to successfully handle multiple tasks/projects simultaneously and work well under pressure, independently, and in a team-oriented environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is required.

Preferred Qualifications: Degree in business-related field preferred; a degree outside of business is acceptable with appropriate experience.

This is a full-time, exempt, State position with a full benefits package. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
