The Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department (BMB) seeks anAcademic Program Coordinator who will be responsible for providing academic, administrative support, and coordination for the department. This position will provide support in coordinating, facilitating and implementing academic services for our MHS, ScM, and PhD Programs. Requires strong organizational, analytical, and management skills, including project management, data analysis, and special projects as required. The Academic Program Coordinator will be reporting to the Academic Program Administrator/Manager.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Academic Program Administrator/Manager with the assistance of establishing program course schedules, developing marketing materials, brochures, catalogs, requiring planning, coordination, knowledge and understanding of the academic program.
  • In coordination with program director(s), assist develop and implement processes, procedures, and systems. May include course scheduling system, and student and faculty database.
  • Maintain course records and other student databases.
  • Assist with providing information to students about admission criteria, program offering, degree prerequisites & requirements, etc.
  • Works closely with program director(s) to compile data, generate substantive reports, and analyze trends, and make recommendations accordingly. Reports can be for
  • Process reimbursements and budget reconciliation for programs. Assist with monitoring departmental funds and grants expenditures. Reconcile reports and resolves expenditure discrepancies.
  • Assist with advising students on academic requirements including managing sensitive personal issues with students.
  • Cross-trained to be a liaison to International Office and resource to students regarding visa issues.
  • Assist with scheduling and coordinate events, activities and facilitates for these activities. Events can include orientation, open house, seminars, receptions, etc.
  • Assist with student recruitment and marketing efforts for programs. Represents the department (and sometimes the school) at recruitment events – both on and offsite. Make recommendations concerning marketing, admissions processing, business outreach.
  • Provides support to student organizations
  • Assist with planning information sessions for the academic programs
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • High School/Diploma/GED.
  • Three (3) years’ administrative/academic related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and to be a proactive leader.
  • Excellent computer skills (internet and software applications).
  • Experience with database management.

JHU Equivalency Formula:30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.  Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Starting Salary Range: $17.42 - $23.95/hr (commensurate with experience)
Employee group: Full Time

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
