The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine seeks an experiencedResearch Program Manager to help manage the administrative and scientific aspects of a complex multisite NIH-funded study to support the return to in-person school in Baltimore City Public Schools. The Research Program Manager will have significant responsibility for collaborating with the investigative team, developing and refining the protocol in collaboration with the investigators and a community advisory board, developing standard operating procedures, and monitoring fidelity and data quality. The primary role of the Research Program Manager to manage the implementation of the project across three university sites and City Schools.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Developing and managing study timeline and program management plan.
  • Facilitating collaborative action focused meetings among study investigators; this includes developing agendas and determining and assigning action items to keep the team on track in alignment with the program management plan.
  • Managing team communication and accountability using web-based project management software (e.g. Basecamp).
  • Oversight and strategic responsibility for complex IRB protocols and reporting in compliance with JHU SOM policies, Baltimore City Public Schools policies, and other relevant policies (e.g. HIPAA/FERPA);
  • Collaborating with the data science team to prepare study data for sharing with NIH and other collaborators in compliance with data privacy regulations.
  • Managing logistics for rapid analysis and sharing of results with NIH and other study investigators.
  • Preparation of reports for NIH to meet reporting requirements (e.g., progress reports).
  • Working collaboratively with a broad group of academic and non-academic stakeholders and community members.
  • Collaborating on the design of study data collection instruments, focus group guides and dissemination materials.
  • Collaborating on quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
  • Collaborating with the data science team to provide strategic insight into database design and management.
  • Hiring, training and supervising research assistants and other project staff.
  • Updating the project website as needed.
  • Contributing to reports and helping with drafting manuscripts and presentations.
  • Oversight of project budget.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have excellent organizational and strategic project management skills.
  • Be able to work independently.
  • Be able to effectively prioritize multiple tasks with concurrent deadlines and demonstrate excellent time management skills and efficiency.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field required.
  • Five years related experience in project management in health, public health, and/or education required.
  • Demonstrated supervisory or lead responsibilities.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in education, public health, data science, business, psychology or related field strongly preferred, including coursework in research methods.
  • Coursework or certificate in research project management.
  • Experience with community-engaged research or interventions.
  • Experience with data capture programs such as REDCap.
  • Experience with project management programs such as BaseCamp.
  • Experience working in schools or with school data.
  • Coursework and experience in data analysis using a statistical analysis program such as Stata, SAS, R, and/or Mplus.
  • Experience with focus groups and/or key informant interviews and analyses.

JHU Equivalency Formula:30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.  Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
