The Senior Auditor for Special Projects reports to the Auditor
Manager for Special Projects and is responsible for conducting
investigations resulting from internal and external allegations of
fraud, waste, and abuse; consulting and advisory reviews; and other
special projects as assigned by leadership. The incumbent is
responsible for conducting all aspects of a project including,
intake, planning, fieldwork, and communicating results, including
the preparation of written reports.
The incumbent is expected to fulfill their responsibilities with
limited supervision while maintaining effective communication with
audit leadership. The complexity and size of engagements will vary
significantly. This position, in conjunction with audit leadership,
will determine the scope of work performed, nature of testing
completed, and the reporting disposition of results. The incumbent
will ensure timely progress and successful completion of projects
and ensure their work meets established standards for
documentation, thoroughness, accuracy, etc.
This is a hands-on position that interfaces with the most senior
levels of management. In performing consulting and advisory
reviews, the incumbent must have the ability to plan, conduct,
and/or direct engagements that will support the university’s
strategic alignment. The incumbent must ensure compliance with the
Code of Virginia, university policy and procedure, OARC standards
and procedures, and the requirements of the Office of the State
• Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, finance, information
technology, criminal justice, or related field.
• Significant experience in investigative and/or audit.
• CFE, CPA, CIA, CISA, or other relevant professional
• Demonstrated experience conducting fraud, waste, and abuse
investigations, forensic accounting investigations, and/or
strategic organizational reviews.

• Exceptional interpersonal communication skills (both in writing
and verbally) to effectively communicate at all levels within the
