The Setnor School of Music within the College of Visual and Performing Arts seeks a Part-time Instructor to teach MUI 402 Current State of the Music Industry, a two credit hour course, during the spring 2022 semester.
This course includes assigned projects requiring individual preparation and presentation. Emphasis on the current state of the music industry with implications for the future. Projects require interaction with local experts and national leaders.
This course is designed as a senior research seminar where students have completed the core curriculum courses in the music industry degree. Assigned projects require both individual and group preparation and presentation. In order to properly prepare seniors for various career tracks, it is essential for participants to focus on current issues, trends, legal precedents, global initiatives, mergers and acquisitions and information relating to advancements in technology that impact the music industry. Participants are expected to develop a corporate boardroom mentality, think critically and effectively in pressure situations that require teamwork, meeting goals, deadlines and following instructions. The other focus during the semester is to assist students with self-evaluation of their career aspirations and how to effectively prepare for obtaining a job in the industry.

Qualifications
Relevant academic credentials or professional experience including:

A thorough, relevant, up-to-date understanding of the music industry including current issues, trends, legal precedents, global initiatives, mergers and acquisitions and information relating to advancements in technology that impact the music industry.

Professional music industry experience strongly preferred.

Prior teaching experience strongly preferred. Job Specific Qualifications
The candidate should have strong attention to detail, knowledge of course content, demonstrated professional experience and/or prior teaching experience in the music business, as well as the ability to relate well in a classroom and one-on-one environment with college-level students.

Preference will be given to applicants who are able to fulfill multiple positions within the Setnor School of Music. Responsibilities
  • Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
  • Preparation of lectures, projects or other student assignments.
  • Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours.
  • Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
  • Meeting all designated class periods. If you are unable to meet your class due to illness or emergency, you should exercise your best effort to reschedule the class or to obtain a substitute. You must also notify the department chair of your absence and of your plan to cover the class.
  • Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
  • Grading student assignments and exams in timely manner.
  • Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
  • Building a positive rapport with students and other faculty.
