Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The primary objective of the UNCW Police Department is to provide a safe and secure environment within which students, faculty, and staff can live, learn, and work. The department is comprised of three divisions – Support Services, Investigations, and Operations. The officers who staff these divisions are duly sworn, certified, armed, and empowered with the same authority as other local law enforcement officers in the State of North Carolina as regulated by the North Carolina Department of Justice. Telecommunicators, program managers and command-level personnel provide administrative support for the various divisions. The department also employs full-time and part-time security guards who assist community members by performing building patrols, area patrols, escorts, and access to other departmental services.

Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Administrative Assistant position works under the direction of the Business Officer. Daily tasks and processes are heavily focused on procurement (UShop, PACS, product selection, costing, and coordinating with vendors).
Remaining daily tasks include:
maintaining available supplies and inventory management, timekeeping, travel, billing and accounts receivable, reconciling transactions, and assisting with employee/personnel processes (HR 3.30’s, email/banner access, etc.), file creation and maintenance and general administrative and clerical support.
Position serves as the primary or assistant web page manager. Position also works in conjunction with Equipment Technician on inventorying, inspecting and maintaining police vehicles and call boxes and similar equipment of the police department.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work
Preferred education, professional skills and experience
- Travel coordination for others experience preferred
- Timesheet processing for others experience preferred
- Cost Analysis experience preferred
- Accounting experience preferred
- Previous experience in law enforcement is preferred
