This position is located in the Facilities Operations and Services Complex working 2pm-1030pm, Monday-Friday. The successful candidate will be required to work overtime and be put on an on-call rotation list. Major Responsibilities
Duties include but are not limited to: Perform journey level plumbing work and supervise others in the installation, alteration and repair of pipes, fittings and fixtures of heating, heating control, domestic water, drainage systems, fire pump testing, sprinkler inspections, according to specifications and plumbing codes. This includes the planning and laying out of work and determining the cause of trouble in plumbing systems and equipment. Maintain and repair circulating pump equipment. Troubleshooting electrical circuits to pumps and motors. Repairs booster pumps and sump pumps, and fabricates new parts for various pieces of equipment.
Maintain air conditioner chillers and refrigeration equipment; chemically treat and service condensers and water cooling towers; keep accurate records of all chemicals used for Department of Environmental Conservation.
Job Requirements: Working knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the plumbing and steam fitting trade; working knowledge of applicable plumbing code regulations; working knowledge of steam, air conditioning, and refrigeration, the mathematics of the plumbing trade; working knowledge of hot water and steam heating systems and control devices; ability to plan, lay out and complete plumbing and steam fitting work; ability to read, interpret and work from plans, drawings and specifications; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; ability to use the tools, machines, equipment and materials of the plumbing and steam fitting trade; ability to do moderately heavy lifting and to stand for prolonged periods of time; working knowledge of the rules and regulations of the facility; working knowledge of the practices and techniques of welding, brazing and soldering not requiring complex planning or use of special procedures; ability to estimate labor, material requirements and costs of plumbing work; ability to supervise and train others; ability to weld, braze and solder using gas and arc welding equipment.
In addition, the successful applicant will be required to obtain New York State pesticide certification in category 7G for water treatment of cooling tower systems. Functional and Supervisory Relationships Required Qualifications
Four years of full-time experience under a skilled journeyman, which would provide training equivalent to that given in an apprenticeship program. Apprenticeship training in a trade or training gained by the completion of technical courses in a trade at a school or institute may be substituted for the above on a year-for-year basis.
