Job Description

The Assistant Cheer/Dance Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Cheerleading Coach in organizing and managing all phases of a Division I Cheerleading and Dance program, including recruitment, skills & technique, safety standards & protocols, sideline presence & gametime assignments, team travel, student-athlete academic & conduct monitoring, public speaking & community/donor relations, competition scheduling & choreography, revenue generation & budget management, and increasing the overall visibility of the athletics brands.

Brief Description of Duties
  • Responsible for assisting in all phases of a Division I intercollegiate cheerleading and dance program, which includes operational elements such as: scheduling, recruiting, travel coordination, budgets and fundraising; in addition to skill fundamentals, technique and safety standards.
  • Instruct, lead, and coach student-athletes at practice, competitive events, and during athletic gameday performances.
  • Oversee academic and personal well-being of student-athletes.
  • Assist in building a nationally recognized Division I cheerleading and dance program through successful recruiting, fundraising, and retention of high-level talent.
  • Assist with budgeting, revenue generation, reconciling expenses, and proposing program purchases.
  • Serve as a liaison to the broader (University) community, engaging in alumni, fund raising, and other key stakeholder activities.
  • Organize and manage community service events for the team.
  • Assist in the recruitment, management, and involvement of program mascot, Sammy Spartan.
  • Assist growth & development of the Junior Spartans program to engage community youth
  • Must be committed to the academic goals of the university.
  • Candidate must demonstrate awareness and experience understanding the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language and academic preparation.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience of 2+ years as a collegiate/professional cheerleader/dancer and/or coach.
  • Applicants should demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree
  • 3+ years as a collegiate/professional cheerleader/dancer and/or coach.

Conditional Appointment

Athletic coach appointments are temporary by nature, expire at the end of the term stated and do not establish any future appointment rights. The position does not qualify for or lead to tenure but may be extended on an annual basis.

The work for this faculty position is located in the State of California. Employment is contingent upon proof of eligibility to work in the United States. Proof of immunization against COVID-19 or proof of a medical or religious exemption and compliance with testing protocols is required for employment. Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Salary Range - $10,000/annually - Part-Time – 10 hours a week
