Job Summary

The Assistant Director, Multicultural Development Initiatives develops, implements, and sustains comprehensive multicultural programs for the Multicultural and Leadership Development Center (MLD).

Job Description

Typical duties my include but are not limited to:

•Assists the Director or other appropriate administrator in long-term planning, strategic alignment, and management oversight of the Multicultural and Leadership Development Center.

•Establishes performance goals and measures to evaluate success of assigned area of responsibility.

•Participates in formulating and implementing policies and procedures.

•Supervises the day-to-day operations of assigned area including the supervision of departmental employees.

•Ensures all programs, activities, and series comply with University, State, and Federal regulations.

Other Duties:

•Creates, develops, and implements a comprehensive and systematic multicultural development co-curriculum.

•Applies advanced frameworks of intersectional and critical social justice.

•Oversees the development and implementation of multicultural development and engagement programs and initiatives.

•Develops, administers and analyzes continuous assessment of programs. Prepares and evaluates statistical, analytical, and narrative reports to be used for decision making and program improvement.

•Proves in-services training and facilitates meetings, workshops, and seminars for the purpose of identifying issues, developing recommendations, and supporting students and staff. Serves as a resource to staff, campus, community, and general public.

•Assumes responsibility for advanced marketing and promotion of signature multicultural programs to all students and campus community.

•Creates and fosters a positive community environment and uses creative and innovative methods to personally connect with campus multicultural advisors, student leadership, and residential students.

•Oversees the coordination of student attendance and participation in state, regional, and national student development conferences focused on multicultural/diversity inclusion of social justice.

•Interviews, hires, trains, and evaluates staff to ensure adequate staffing with budget.

•Participates in program research projects and co-author/co-present research finding.

•Develops programs strategies to engage and increase diverse student population retention rates.

•Develops and implements community outreach activities for a wide variety of constituents and groups.

•Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree from an accredited institution in Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling or closely related field.

Two years of professional, full-time experience in student affairs, multicultural and leadership development, or student involvement.

Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

Progressive experience in a college/university setting within student affairs and demonstrated commitment working with students through multicultural initiatives and groups.

Experience with broad ranges of multiple identities and positionalities, including gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, disability, worldview and other significant aspects of identity.

Demonstrated success in program development, delivery, and assessment in college/university settings within student affairs.

Expert knowledge and extensive understanding of best practices in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Multicultural perspectives in student-centered program planning and implementation.

Experience with and participation in state and regional student development conferences.

Experience with advising and student multicultural programming development.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge and understanding of management principles, practices, and standards, as applied to public institutions.

Knowledge and experience working with learning communities and faculty members.

Knowledge of student organization structures, multicultural development design, and student development theories.

Knowledge of budget control principles, practices and procedures.

Knowledge of FERPA.

Knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) applications.

Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

Skill in active learning by understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.

Ability to work collaboratively and build strategic relations with colleagues, coworkers, constituents, and volunteers.

Ability to think critically and creatively, have a high standard of integrity, and be motivated to incorporate best practices into the organizational structure.

Ability to implement new systems and procedures and to evaluate their effectiveness.

Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments.

Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate programs.

Ability to effectively plan and delegate the work of others.

Ability to develop and deliver training presentations and programs.

Ability to effectively manage the work of others by providing information, guidance and motivation.

Ability to operate personal computers with proficiency and learn new applications and systems.
