Portland Community College is seeking an OMIC FabLab Coordinator for the new OMIC Training Center located in Scappoose, Oregon. The Oregon Manufacturing Innovation Center (OMIC) is a collaborative environment bringing together industry, higher education and government in partnership to develop new tools, techniques, and technologies to address near-term manufacturing challenges through applied research and advanced technical training. PCC is leading the Center, which combines on-the-job training with classroom and lab instruction in an apprenticeship type model. Students can complete different educational pathways that lead to employment and/or career advancement opportunities through OMIC training.

This full-time position provides an exciting opportunity for a collaborative and visionary coordinator to create outreach opportunities attracting underrepresented student populations and helping high school students become interested in STEM, manufacturing, and related career pathways. The OMIC FabLab Coordinator must bring a commitment to championing the center, have a desire to build and collaborate with the District STEM Center Coordinators, be ready to develop deep and lasting relationships with partner organizations in the local community, and be willing to develop a program that is connected and relevant for the diverse population that will access the FabLab Center.

Candidate Profile

These qualifications, skills and abilities are critical for success in this position.
Throughout the screening process, you will be evaluated based on the demonstration of these qualifications.

  • Ability to think big picture, and collaborate with OMIC PCC/Partners to build a program from scratch. Program coordination, planning, organization, and vision focused. Delegation experience - taking the planning and actualizing it through collaborative efforts.
  • Experience with outreach, building and maintaining relationships with community-based organizations to find alignment across missions, and going beyond the bounds of the organization to build an audience for programs and services; serving as an inspiring ambassador for the program they represent.
  • Relevant work in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, knowledge of equity gaps specific to STEM/manufacturing and critical examination of programming to reflect changes needed in those areas.
  • Knowledge of the experiences, needs, and strengths of non-traditional student populations.
  • Facilitation of students as they transition to the college environment, providing support and sharing knowledge of financial aid, scholarships, including understanding resources for DACAmented and undocumented student populations.
  • Passion for/interest in inspiring high schoolers and young adults and making connections between present interests/skills and future career pursuits.
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot manufacturing, production, and prototyping tools (not necessarily lab specific equipment). Openness to learning new technologies and processes.



Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Applied Science, Engineering Technology, Art/Design, or related field (experience performing the duties of this job may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis).

Two years of experience performing duties related to the position.

Position Grade 4 Starting Salary Expectations $52,157 to $55,875 (Step 3); based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity. Position Grade Salary Range $52157 to $90445 Annual Salary FTE 1 PCC Benefits

Paid Leave: (Pro-rated by FTE for Part-Time Employees)

  • Starts at 13.33 hours of vacation leave per month (additional vacation hours with years of services)

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Work is performed in a range of environments including office, laboratory, and of-site locations. Use of appropriate personal protective equipment is routinely required. Physical exertion includes standing during training, carrying equipment, supplies, flip charts and other audio-visual equipment and regularly lifting up to 50 pounds. Occasional evening and/or weekend hours. Travel in the local area requires access to a vehicle and a valid driver license.
