A Maker Space Student Foreman position is available at Virginia
Commonwealth University ( VCU ) within Maker Spaces associate with the
College of Engineering. The student worker will assist with instructional
setup/preparation associated with various seminars/courses, maker space
upkeep, ordering and inventory, waste and safety records, routine
equipment maintenance, and maintaining student/faculty work orders
associated with the Maker Spaces. Essential responsibilities include:
• Assist with daily preparation of maker space activities
• Maintain and Monitor inventory of equipment and supplies in coordination with Lab Engineer overseeing facility.
• Assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of maker space equipment
• Maintain effective communication with Director of Maker Spaces and Lab Engineer
• Provide onsite support under supervision of the Lab Engineer
• Candidates will have teaching assistance responsibilities
• Verify users of the maker spaces have the appropriate general and/or safety training prior to using equipment
• Will work closely with Maker Space staff to ensure compliance while maintaining safety protocols Required Qualifications
• Candidate must be mechanically inclined and willing to learn
• Previous machining experience or completion of the College of Engineering Innovation Shop Training is Desirable
• The College of Engineering supports a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment. The candidate will demonstrate experience that shows their commitment to fostering such an environment
• Experience with hand and power tools
• Excellent Record Keeping
• Knowledge of CAD, CAM, and/or Programming
• Ability to operate with comfort in a maker space environment equipped with industrial equipment
• The desire to be a student leader in the maker space, helping others who are less experienced, and ensuring the highest levels of maker space safety are maintained
• The ability and willingness to work through problems logically and apply innovative solutions
• Demonstrated ability to work in multidisciplinary teams, displaying excellent interpersonal skills
• Maintain customer focus, motivate self, and demonstrate a high degree of professionalism Preferred Qualifications
• Machine Shop Experience
