Position Summary

The Graduate Program & Services Office ( GPO ) of the University at Buffalo School of Management seeks a student-focused, goal-oriented Academic Advisor to provide academic advising services for our diverse population of MS and PhD students, many of whom are international.

  • Deliver individualized academic advising, as well as design and facilitate engaging orientation and other wrap around programming.
  • Specializing in advisement of graduate-level management information systems students and PhD, you will collaborate with the team of advisors in the Graduate Programs Office focusing on helping students successfully transition from admission to degree conferral.
  • Collaborate with advising team, faculty, and department to provide outstanding service to our students (including a significant population of international students), supporting their academic goals and timely completion of their degree.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree with at least two years of relevant experience.
  • A genuine desire to work with graduate level business students.
  • Exceptional advising skills including communication, problem solving, detailed oriented and service oriented attitude.
  • Demonstrated project management abilities, multitasking, organization, and ability to adapt and pivot.
  • Superior interpersonal skills, professional demeanor and excellence in oral and written communication.
  • Ability to teach/present effectively, including to large groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint a must, with ability to learn new systems and software.
  • Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.




Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in higher education or related field.
  • Strong understanding of academic advising and experience with advising international student populations.
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including international backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of HUB, Navigate and Slate.
