Associate Director - Student Success

About Northeastern:
Founded in 1898, Northeastern is a global research university and the recognized leader in experience-driven lifelong learning. Our world-renowned experiential approach empowers our students, faculty, alumni, and partners to create impact far beyond the confines of discipline, degree, and campus.

Our locations—in Boston; Charlotte, North Carolina; London; Portland, Maine; San Francisco; Seattle; Silicon Valley; Toronto; Vancouver; and the Massachusetts communities of Burlington and Nahant—are nodes in our growing global university system. Through this network, we expand opportunities for flexible, student-centered learning and collaborative, solutions-focused research.

Northeastern's comprehensive array of undergraduate and graduate programs— in a variety of on-campus and online formats—lead to degrees through the doctorate in nine colleges and schools. Among these, we offer more than 195 multi-discipline majors and degrees designed to prepare students for purposeful lives and careers.

About the Opportunity:
The associate directors will play a lead role in a bold and innovative new program at Northeastern University, the Student Success Initiative. The Student Support Initiative is an effort driven by the Office of the Senior Vice Chancellor for Education Innovation to enhance the ability of incoming first-year students to access the continuous support and guidance they need in order to thrive from “Day One.”

Responsibilities:
This initiative pairs trained upperclassmen (called Student Success Guides) with incoming students who will serve as navigation support, directing incoming students quickly and efficiently to the experts and resources they need. Each associate director will manage a team of approximately 10 Success Coordinators who will lead, organize, train and supervise a group of approximately 10 Student Success Guides, with each Student Success Guide supporting approximately 10-20 students.
The Student Support Initiative will launch in the Fall of 2021 to welcome first-year students to the Northeastern University community, connect them to Northeastern's many resources, and provide individualized support for institutional interactions. This effort aims to enhance the student experience, facilitate connections with student support staff, and further solidify Northeastern's position as a leader in education innovation. The inaugural team of associate directors will play an integral part in designing and refining this new student service.
The successful candidate will join a leadership team of three associate directors and a director. Each associate director will lead committee and project work within the department and across the division. The associate directors will be integral in the shaping, refining, and iterative design of the Student Support Initiative through analyzing data, collecting feedback from their teams, and working with key stakeholders across the university. They will contribute to the development and implementation of new programming initiatives. In addition, the associate directors will lead efforts in areas such as assessment; hiring, training, and onboarding; communications and marketing, and event planning.
This position requires the individual to work some non-traditional hours including evenings and weekends to accommodate student schedules, including those engaged in co-op, athletics, and other aspects of student life.
The associate directors will participate in and facilitate dialogue and engagement efforts related to the needs of a diverse student and staff population. Additionally, they will support and contribute to the University's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
The associate directors will work on Northeastern University's Boston Campus.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required; Masters preferred
  • Minimum of 4-6 years of advising, coaching, enrollment, student affairs or related experience
  • Minimum 2 years of staff supervisory experience
  • Strong customer service focus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with a proven ability to strategize, prioritize, and multitask to meet goals and deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills, sufficient to work effectively and collaboratively with a number of different constituencies. Professionalism and collegiality in a team environment, excellent judgment, discretion, and the ability to make decisions in a timely manner.
  • Experience with and a commitment to working in a diverse, multicultural environment
  • Enthusiasm and comfort with working on new initiatives

    Salary Grade:
