Keystone College, is a private liberal arts and sciences college located in La Plume, Pennsylvania, 15 miles west of Scranton and within a two-hour drive to New York City and Philadelphia. Founded in 1868, Keystone was the first institution of higher education in the region. The Opportunity: Keystone College seeks a dynamic and entrepreneurial leader for the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Reporting to the President and serving as a member of the President’s Cabinet, the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs ensures that the academic curriculum meets the academic standards of the College, the standards of accrediting and licensing agencies, and reflects Keystone’s mission, vision, and core values. As Chief Academic Officer, the Provost provides vision and leadership for all matters relating to curriculum and instruction. The Provost serves as the College liaison for meetings of the Academic Affairs Committee of the Board of Trustees and serves as chief administrative officer of the College in the absence of the President.

The Provost also plays a key leadership role in fostering academic excellence and integrity and prioritizing and allocating budgetary resources. The Provost works collaboratively with direct reports to develop and recommend the annual academic budget, ensures fiscal responsibility for use of all funds allocated for educational programs and collaborates with other senior administrators to create support systems for academic affairs. The Provost serves to lead the faculty including as an advocate, facilitator of institutional improvement, and as a transformer of the academic components of the College in order to meet the needs of our students in a rapidly changing higher education landscape. The Provost must be a visionary leader and experienced administrator who can ensure accountability of the Academic Affairs units in a focused drive toward innovation, transformation, and excellence.

Qualifications:

The next Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs will exhibit sincere commitment to the liberal arts and sciences foundation of the College’s diverse degree programs and possess a thorough understanding of all components of academic affairs. With a collaborative, inclusive, and collegial leadership style, the successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to shared governance and a proven ability to communicate and work effectively with faculty, staff, students and community groups of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds. The successful candidate will also have experience supervising faculty, staff, and managing budgets as a department chair, dean, or vice president. Evidence of innovative, outside-the-box thinking, and problem-solving skills is a requirement. Along with a strong background of administrative, teaching, and supervisory experience, an earned doctorate and evidence of scholarly/creative activities are required. 

Location: Keystone’s campus rests on 276 scenic acres in the historic Lackawanna Valley of Northeastern Pennsylvania that boasts beautiful landscapes with idyllic hills and shimmering waterways. The region also features historic sites, outdoor recreation, and cultural/arts venues.  The area offers affordable living and is located within a two-hour drive to New York City and Philadelphia.
