Associate Director of Family Engagement and Giving

Key Accountabilities
  • Responsible for planning and executing the parent and grandparent engagement program which includes on-campus, local, regional, international, and leadership events. Identify emerging trends and priorities to provide strategic, logistical, and programmatic advice to colleagues in the planning and implementation of events. Facilitate the department’s ability to react to market demands by adjusting relationships and projects in order to ensure the integrity and vitality of the relationship between PEA and its parents.
  • Assist in achieving the Academy’s fundraising goals through targeted relationship-building and special events working closely with other IA departments. Offer support to our Alumni Relations partners when needed.
  • Establish, manage, and modify evaluative tools for use in determining how parents want to be engaged and how Family Engagement and Giving should measure and analyze the success of all department events.
  • Develop relationships with counterparts at peer schools to share and hone best practices.
  • Collaborate and innovate with internal and external constituents including:
    • Dean of Students Office for drop off and pickup events, Family Weekend, and other parent gatherings
    • Admissions Office for Welcome Parties for new families
    • Office of Multicultural Affairs for International Student Orientation
    • Campus leaders of Equity and Inclusion, LGBTQ+, First Generation, BIPOC, International, and others for family affinity programming
    • College Counseling for Upper Family College Counseling Weekend
    • Faculty and Campus leaders for special programming
    • Communications Department on the Parent Newsletter and other parent-focused outreach
    • Principal’s Office for leadership dinners and events
    • Family hosts to create and execute multiple parent events - large receptions to intimate dinners - that will provide opportunities for engaging, educating, and cultivating our families
  • Offer a hybrid of in person and virtual events and evaluate the success of each.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusivity and to serving the needs of a diverse and inclusive community with diplomacy and tact.
  • Work comfortably with technology and explore and integrate new technology as it becomes available.
  • Support the Parents Committee by helping colleagues identify, cultivate, recruit, train, motivate, and grow a successful pool of loyal parent volunteers.
  • Manage event budgets and make decisions for best ROI opportunities.

Direct/Indirect Reports

Incumbent assists in the supervision of administrative staff.

Internal & External Contacts

Frequent contact with parents, donors, alumni, students, and colleagues from all corners of campus (deans, faculty, staff, admissions, IT, etc.). External contacts may include prospective families, vendors, and visitors.

Position Requirements


  • Bachelor’s Degree


  • A minimum of five years of experience in alumni or parents relations/engagement (preferably parents) and demonstrated ability to manage all phases within the Family Engagement profession.
  • Experience working with and supporting other advancement functions including Annual Giving, Major Gifts, and Advancement Operations preferred.
  • Experience in all aspects of event management, event planning, budgeting, and volunteer management.

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite of programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and various social platforms. Knowledge of industry specific software preferred.

  8. Ability to lift and transport up to 25lbs without assistance.
Additional Requirements
  1. Successfully complete a criminal background check (reviewed every 5 years).
  2. Clean Driving record (reviewed annually).
