SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Vice President for Administrative Planning/Chief Organizational Development Officer, the Human Resources Director has responsibility for the full range and life-cycle of human resources activities, including student and seasonal employment and human resources hiring and benefit practices unique to higher education. The Human Resource Manager manages programs and functions in the areas of staffing and recruitment, position management, compensation, college leave and federal and state Federal Medical Leave Act (FMLA), employee relations, performance management, and professional development. The Human Resources Manager also provides consultative and directional guidance for all employment categories. This position requires frequent interaction with a diverse faculty, staff, and student community and strict confidentiality in all matters. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain management guidelines by preparing, updating, and recommending policies and procedures, and maintaining updated job descriptions.
  • Oversee the recruiting, interviewing, hiring, disciplining, and terminating of staff.
  • Advise faculty and staff on college policies and employment laws and handle questions, interpret and administer agreements, and help resolve work-related problems.
  • Analyze compensation and benefits to establish competitive programs and ensure compliance with legal requirements.
  • Provide day-to-day performance management guidance to management (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).
  • Assist with the separation process including exit interviews, employment documents, payroll coordination, and meetings as employees' transition out of the college.
  • Manage open enrollment process including evaluating current health plans and working with brokers to obtain new plan bids.
  • Generate standard and ad hoc reports.
  • Partner with Senior Leadership on special projects.
  • Administer FMLA Leave paperwork including tracking return from leave for employees.
  • Manage unemployment, EEO, and worker's compensation claims.
  • Oversee payroll operations including the payroll staff.
  • Identify opportunities to drive continuous improvement with existing HR systems and processes.
  • Supervise employees. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the college's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Complete special projects as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION

  • A Bachelor's (BA or BS) in Human Resource Management, Business or related field required.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in Human Resources/Employee Relations plus 3 years of Human Resources management experience. Experience in higher education is highly valued; however, candidates from other areas with a strong record of leadership, and applicable experiences are encouraged to apply.

REQUIRED SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND/OR LICENSURE

  • Evidence of professional experience working with diverse and dynamic populations.
  • Broad knowledge of Human Resources functions in order to exercise sound judgment in decision making.
  • Time management, prioritization, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • A willingness to build relationships and collaborate with others.
  • Ability to work with senior leaders to coach and influence.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS WORD, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point.
  • Experience with and HRIS system.
  • Certification through HRCI and SHRM desired.
