Xavier University’s Division of Student Affairs seeks qualified applicants for the Gallagher Student Center Director role within the Office of Student Involvement, Gallagher Student Center and Commuter Services. This position is a twelve-month, exempt role that supports student development and socialization through events, activities, and student employment opportunities within a comprehensive student union experience. This position is also responsible for oversight and direction of Commuter Services. The role reports to the Senior Director for Student Affairs.

Duties/Responsibilities:

The Gallagher Student Center Director is responsible for providing leadership for the Gallagher Student Center and the Office of Commuter Services. The principle role of the Director is to provide oversight, guidance, and direction for our comprehensive college union facility, the Gallagher Student Center. The Gallagher Student Center is a 75,000 square foot multipurpose college union and hub for student activities that is operated and staffed 20 hours/day 7 days/week during the academic year and includes university offices, retail space, event space, and student lounges. The Student Center Director is responsible for strategic planning, annual goal development, capital planning, budget oversight, and policy and security protocols. This position oversees two student employment programs including 40 Student Assistants, 6 Student Supervisors, the GSC Operations Supervisor, and the Graduate Assistant for Commuter Services.

The Director also provides leadership for the Office of Commuter Services. This includes strategic planning, development of annual goals, and implementation of the mission and vision. A key responsibility for this role is to develop strategies to increase the retention, success, and engagement of traditional commuter students. At Xavier, traditional commuter students are typically first and second-year students who live in the Greater Cincinnati area and commute from a family home. Commuter students account for about 10% of the total undergraduate population. In support of these efforts, the Director works with the Graduate Assistant for Commuter Services and the Commuter Student Assistants to oversee the daily operations of the Commuter Lounge, commuter events, social media and website management, and commuter student advocacy and support. The Director provides community development opportunities and generalized support for the commuter student population and advises the Commuter Activities Board.

The Gallagher Student Center Director is as a member of the Office of Student Involvement, Gallagher Student Center and Commuter Services team and engages in departmental programming, decision making, and event staffing. The office’s vision statement reads, “We believe that, through involvement, individuals discover their passions and develop their strengths to lead a purposeful life.” In addition to the management of the Gallagher Student Center and support for commuter students, the department facilitates campus activities and leadership programs, supports and oversees 160+ student organizations, oversees new student orientation and transition programs, advises the Student Government Association, and coordinates processes and policies for many available campus resources. In an effort to support the success of all Xavier students and departmental initiatives, the Director also serves as a departmental representative on university-wide committees and divisional teams as assigned.

Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will possess a Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, or a transferable field with three to five years of experience in college student affairs, student development, and campus event and facility operations or related area. Candidates must demonstrate written and oral communication proficiency. Graduate assistantship experience that is directly related to the role can be considered as eligible experience. Preferred qualifications include candidates with experience in campus event planning, management of AV systems, development and assessment of student learning outcomes, budget management (including Banner Finance software), student supervision, and demonstrated experience working with and advocating for a broad spectrum of underrepresented populations.
