Assistant Director of Career and Professional Development, Diversity Initiatives Lead
Reporting to the Director of Advising, the Assistant Director of Career and Professional Development, Diversity Initiatives Lead assists the Director and the Dean of Career and Professional Development in executing the Office’s strategic plan through advising students and alumni, facilitating recruitment opportunities, providing planning, logistical and marketing support for events, programs and career trips, and other projects and initiatives as assigned. Plays a large role in identifying strategies to advise our growing under-represented student population. In this capacity, he/she will be one of two liaisons for CPD and the Office of Inclusion and Student Engagement. Additionally, works closely with internal partners (e.g., alumni affairs, development, faculty and staff) and external partners (e.g., recruiters, alumni) to create a culture of collaboration among a variety of stakeholders across the University. The Assistant Director will advise students and alumni in the areas of professional development, help develop and execute career-related programs designed to enhance their knowledge of career fields, and establish links between students and employers, alumni and professionals.

- Serves as personal, academic and professional advisor to
first-year through senior year students.
- Counsels and provides career ad vice to assist students and
alumni in developing and applying personal, academic and job-search
competencies and decision-making skills.
- Identifies strategies to engage and advise our growing
under-represented student population. Liaises with the Office of
Inclusion and Student Engagement. Collaborates with Career
Development staff in development of trainings and workshops
targeted to underrepresented student populations.
- Supports the Director(s) and Associate Directors(s) in
facilitating recruitment opportunities for students and alumni
through regular review and approval of employers and job
opportunities on the Handshake platform and posting and marketing
incoming opportunities from the alumni network and other
- Supports the Director(s) and Associate Directors(s) in
developing, planning, marketing and executing professional
development and industry-specific events, programs and career
- Develops relationships with faculty, staff, recruiters and
alumni to ensure available experts/resources in desirable career
- Supports the Dean on First Year Engagement, including being
CPD’s main contact for programs such as AIM and FYE 100
- Supports the Director(s) in managing internal databases and
maintaining data integrity.
- Utilizes data and provides research on areas of interest.
- Serves as representative to SLAC, LACN and other career related
- Promotes and Practices NACE Principles of Professional
- Performs additional related duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree required and master's degree preferred with 1-3 years of full-time experience in college/university career services. An opportunity for subsidized post-graduate education and completion of a master’s degree in a related field may be considered for the selected candidate. Experience and expertise including: working with students throughout career process from indecision/exploration through job acquisition, knowledge of career fields relevant to liberal arts graduates and alumni. In the absence of higher education experience, a combination of education and relevant experience providing a similar background and capabilities will be considered. This position requires the incumbent to portray a high energy level and be an active and successful team member. Must possess strong oral and written communication skills having a demonstrated ability to follow through. The independent nature of this role requires the incumbent to take initiative and possess a strong attention to detail.

Work Schedule: M-F, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm with occasional nights and weekend hours required.
Pay commensurate with experience.
