The Department of Environmental Health and Engineering is seeking a qualified candidate to serve as the departmentalSenior Academic Program Coordinator. The successful candidate will oversee the doctoral level programs for the department which uniquely spans two divisions within the university, namely the Bloomberg School of Public Health and the Whiting School of Engineering. Additionally, this position will oversee the undergraduate programs as well as postdoctoral appointments. The successful candidate has administrative responsibility for complex program elements requiring collaboration with students, faculty, and/or other departments.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform duties and responsibilities of Academic Program Coordinator.
  • Provide support to student organizations.
  • Assist with student recruitment and marketing efforts for programs.
  • Advise students on academic requirements. May handle sensitive personal issues with students.
  • May oversee the work of less experienced employees or students.
  • Coordinate admissions process.
  • Schedule, plan, develop, produce information sessions.
  • May work closely with Admissions and Recruitment Committees, e.g., tracking and analyzing trends data, compiles data and generates reports. Participates in decisions made by committee.
  • Make recommendations concerning marketing, admissions processing, business outreach.
  • May independently manage specific program activities.
  • Responsible for training grant appointments, scholarships, and the reappointment process
  • Liaison to International Office and resource to students regarding visa issues; work with central HR services to initiate and assure timeliness of vis processing.
  • Produce substantive reports for department faculty and administration. Responsible for content and production of student publications.
  • Provide administrative support including scheduling non-departmental classrooms and equipment as needed; assisting with access issues related to Blackboard, email accounts, and SIS; manage course folders, coordinate book orders/desk copies process; as well as other duties as assigned.
  • Schedule room assignments for final exams each term, working with the Registrar and faculty.
  • Serve as department’s Student Group Liaison with WSE Advising.
  • These responsibilities require special knowledge of and compliance with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and all federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations related to JHU.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Five years progressively responsible administrative/academic experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Experience in an academic setting is strongly preferred
  • Additional education may be substituted for experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU Equivalency Formula.

Computer/Other Special Needs:

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Strong knowledge of DGA, SIS, SAP, OneDrive, Sharepoint, Slate, Courseleaf, Word Press are preferred.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Starting Salary Range: $19.82 - $27.26/hr (commensurate with experience)

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
