Job Summary

The Senior Tutor will help students in Biology courses taught at Johnson County Community College. Other responsibilities include referring students to appropriate resources, assist students with computer software necessary for the courses, and other duties as requested by the supervisor. Tutor students in biology- help students understand concepts in biology by relating the course material to what they already know and using real life examples; refer & aid students to resources- provide assistance to look up reliable information online as well as in books for Biology and provide technical assistance; assist in daily activities of the center- provide assistance in checking out models and books, abide by the policies of the center, respect diversity among students and other tutors; follow good work ethics- exhibit good work ethics by being reliable and dedicated. This position starts August 23, 2021.

Required Qualifications

Bachelors degree in General Biology, Cell Biology and/or Microbiology.
One year of tutoring experience.
Must be familiar with laboratory techniques.
Good communication skills, including listening with understanding and patience.
Ability to explain concepts in Biology, both orally and in written form in a one to one or small group setting

Preferred Qualifications

Two years of tutoring experience.
