Job Responsibilities and Duties:   This position is a 12-month tenure-track faculty position.  Preference will be given to candidates with laboratory and teaching experience in pharmacology, pathophysiology, genomics, molecular biology or closely related fields.  Individuals will be expected to develop an independent yet collaborative research program in their area of expertise. 

Essential Job Functions:   These consist of three domains:  teaching, service and scholarship. 

Teaching (50-60%)

  • Provide quality instruction in didactic, laboratory, and online courses in pharmacology, pathophysiology, molecular biology, genomics, or closely related field.
  • Collaborate with other faculty to develop the curriculum and teaching and administrative methods needed for effective delivery of that curriculum.  This includes creating, developing and evaluating innovative teaching methods which prepare students for modern pharmacy practice or careers in research.
  • Serve as course coordinator, as assigned.
  • Develop and teach elective courses, as appropriate.
  • Continuously strive to incorporate and introduce timely topics and cutting-edge concepts in relevant areas.
  • Be an exemplary professional role model for pharmacy programs’ students and colleagues.

Scholarship (30-40%)

  • Lead and participate in the scholarship of discovery, application, integration and teaching in area of expertise.
  • Pursue fundable programs appropriate to the faculty member’s discipline and interests.
  • Disseminate the results of scholarly endeavors in appropriate forums, including publications, presentations and teaching.
  • Mentor and collaborate with other scholars both inside and outside the institution, as appropriate.

Service (10-20%)

  • Serve as a faculty mentor to pharmacy and graduate students.
  • Participate actively on College and University committees.
  • Serve as a faculty advisor to student organizations, if applicable.
  • Serve as a mentor to new faculty and staff, as appropriate.
  • Contribute meaningfully to departmental and College developmental and planning activities, such as retreats and workshops.
  • Participate in local, state and national professional organizations and professional development activities.
  • Participate in community service activities, as appropriate, for the faculty’s area of practice or as determined by the College or University. 

Qualifications: 

  • Doctor of Philosophy or terminal degree in pharmacology, pathophysiology, molecular biology, genomics, or closely related field.
  • Understanding of current pharmacy education and practice.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with students, faculty, staff, administrators and other stakeholders.
  • Effective presentation and grant-writing skills.
  • Flexibility to deliver diverse course content in biomedical sciences and integrated pharmacotherapy modules (e.g. endocrine, renal, cardiovascular pharmacology/pathophysiology).
  • Ability to provide effective feedback.
  • Ability to adapt to changing teaching and learning environments and content-delivery methods.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues and collaborators.
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities, meet deadlines and manage time.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Basic computer proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, e-mail and internet use.
  • Commitment to continuous self-improvement and professional development.
  • Expertise in more than one area of study or research
  • Ability to develop an independent yet collaborative research program.

Work Schedule: This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt position.  Onsite classes are generally scheduled between 8 AM and 5 PM.  Some classes, laboratories, events and/or meetings may be scheduled in the evening or on weekends.
