Through this network, we expand opportunities for flexible, student-centered learning and collaborative, solutions-focused research.

Among these, we offer more than 195 multi-discipline majors and degrees designed to prepare students for purposeful lives and careers.

About the Opportunity:
Reporting to the Associate Director of Student Services (Toronto campus), and collaborating with staff members from the Office of Global Services, the Global Learner Support Specialist provides language, cultural, and academic support to international and domestic students enrolled at the Toronto campus.

Responsibilities:
The key responsibilities associated with this role include organizing and leading cultural programming, planning and delivering workshops, leading English language tutorials, teaching non-credit courses, recruiting staff and student volunteers to lead workshops and other student events, and publicizing student events. The Global Learner Support Specialist will also work with colleagues at other locations in Northeastern's global campus network to ensure Toronto students have access, where appropriate, to programming originating at other campuses.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred and at least two years of experience providing student support to students in a higher education setting. Demonstrated experience working with international students and second language learners with a strong understanding of the distinct needs of these populations. English as a Second Language teaching experience is required. Strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal communication skills (both verbal and written) are required. Computer skills and experience in working with databases are required. Excellent skills in relationship building, professional presentation, and customer service are required. Ability to manage many tasks simultaneously, take initiative, follow through with projects, and work as an integral member of a team are key assets for this role.

The Global Learner Support Specialist, Toronto Campus, should demonstrate strong intercultural communication skills and be aware of issues pertaining to international students in Canada, including language needs, adjustment challenges and barriers, cultural differences, academic needs, and differences in educational systems.
