Scope of Job:
We seek applicants dedicated to serving The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley's diverse student body as a One Year Lecturer of Organization and School Leadership beginning in the 2021-2022 academic year.

The Department of Organization and School Leadership at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) is seeking an (2) One Year Lecturers to prepare school leadership practitioners beginning in the fall of 2021. The successful candidate will have experience in the leadership of PreK-12 schools at the principal and/or central office administration levels. The selected candidate will be predominantly involved in the classroom and field supervision and mentoring of graduate students in the principal practicum/internship courses and provide professional development and review sessions for students who will complete the state certification exam. The selected candidate may also be required to teach Master's and/or Principal Certification Program courses other than the internship courses and serve on department and/or university committees as assigned by the Department Chair.

UTRGV has campuses and off-campus research and teaching sites throughout the Rio Grande Valley, including in Boca Chica Beach, Brownsville (formerly The University of Texas at Brownsville campus), Edinburg (formerly The University of Texas-Pan American campus), Harlingen, McAllen, Port Isabel, Rio Grande City, and South Padre Island.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Have an earned doctorate in School Administration or School Leadership from an accredited university;
  • Have a valid Principal or Mid-Management Certificate;
  • Have experience as a school leader (principal and/or central office level);
  • Have the ability to supervise practicum/internship courses and other field experiences;
  • Have the ability to conduct review sessions for the state certification Examination;
  • Must have the ability to teach online classes and use technology to support teaching and learning.

Discipline Specific Required Qualifications:
  • Hold validate Principal Certification
  • Experience in School Administration (any level)

Salary: One-Year Lecturers are paid a 9-month academic rate commensurate with experience and/or qualification in the discipline

Additional Information:
UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.

Texas law requires faculty members whose primary language is not English to demonstrate proficiency in English as determined by a satisfactory paper-based test score of 500 (computer-based of 173 or internet-based of 61) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or a satisfactory test score of 6.0 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
