Position Summary:

The English Department at Portland State University invites applications for a full-time generalist Instructor or Senior Instructor I of English to begin September 16, 2021. This is a renewable 1.0 FTE fixed-term position. We seek an active instructor who can contribute to the department by teaching introductory and core undergraduate courses in literature, film, and writing. Preferred specialization in popular culture and alternative genres (such as graphic narrative, video games, fantasy fiction, science fiction, new media, mythology, genre fiction). Instructional duties may include teaching courses on Literature and Popular Culture, Topics in Film, and Topics in Literature and Film. 

Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in English or a related discipline and prior college level teaching experience. Preferred qualifications include experience with online teaching. A completed Ph.D. in English or a related discipline is required at time of appointment. 3/3/3 course load (quarter system); competitive salary; excellent benefits.

Compensation:

The starting annual salary rate for this position will be between $46,071 and $49,500 for an Instructor and  between $52,524 and $57,753 for a Senior Instructor I. The starting salary may be negotiable above this range, however it will be dependent upon the knowledge, experience, skills and abilities of the chosen candidate, the budget of the hiring department, and approval from HR.
