Assistant Professor - Counseling and Development
Long Island University


LIU is seeking qualified candidates to apply for a full-time tenure track Assistant Professor position in the Department of Counseling and Development/College of Education, Information and Technology. Basic responsibilities include teaching and advising graduate students in the CACREP accredited master's degree programs in school counseling and clinical mental health counseling at the LIU Post and LIU Brentwood campuses. Additionally, a commitment to scholarly research and curriculum improvement is expected.

Principal Responsibilities:
  • Teaching in the clinical mental health counseling and school counseling programs at the LIU Post and LIU Brentwood campuses.
  • Developing and maintaining an active research agenda including grant writing.
  • Ongoing mentoring and advising of graduate counseling student trainees.
  • Supervision of graduate student trainee fieldwork experiences in the counseling practicum and counseling internship courses.
  • Participation in curriculum improvement and departmental and university committee activity.
  • Collaboration with other faculty to ensure continued success of our graduate counseling programs.
  • Candidates must have active membership and involvement in professional counseling organizations.

    Education Requirements:
    Candidates should meet the following qualifications:
  • Doctorate in counselor education from a CACREP accredited program. ABD acceptable if graduating by August, 2021.
  • Individuals who have taught in a CACREP accredited program after July, 2016 would also be eligible to apply.
  • A record of successful experience in higher education and/or other educational environments with publication and grant writing experience preferred.
  • Some experience in mental health counseling and/or school counseling.
  • Knowledge of the 2016 CACREP standards and Blackboard or equivalent online instructional software preferred.
  • Publication in professional journals and grant writing experience is welcomed.
