President

American Friends of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AFAvH) seeks applications for the position of President. AFAvH is an independent 501(c) American organization in Washington DC that is the professional partner of the German Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AvH). Our programs serve over 5,400 members of the US Humboldt Alumni Network and the broader US scientific, higher education, and professional communities. Our work helps to strengthen connections with the AvH and increase collaboration between American and German scholars in the sciences and humanities.

 The President is the chief executive officer of AFAvH, proposing to the Board of Directors organizational strategy and goals and bearing overall responsibility for execution of strategy and implementation of programs to advance and support AFAvH’s mission and objectives. The President is responsible for ensuring that administrative and financial structures and processes fulfill the organization’s contractual obligations and donor requirements. As an ex officio member of the organization’s Board of Directors the President works in partnership with the Board and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, representing AFAvH in public fora and vis-à-vis senior members of the US science and science policy community. The President is expected to work primarily from the office in Washington, DC.
