Russian Language Two-Year Term Faculty 2022-23
The Department of Russian Language and Area Studies at St. Olaf College invites applications for a full-time, two-year visiting faculty position at the level of Instructor or Assistant Professor, to begin August 2022. We seek a gifted and enthusiastic language and area studies instructor with a commitment to mentoring undergraduate students and enthusiasm for supporting the growth of the Russian Language and Area Studies on our campus.
A Ph.D. in Russian language or literature or a related field is preferred. Candidates will teach both language and area studies courses. Language classes can range from beginning through advanced culture-centered language courses including our fourth-year language capstone course. In addition to traditional language and literature, courses related to gender studies, diversity issues in Russia or the environment are especially encouraged. Teaching load is six courses with two to four area studies classes per year. The college follows a 4-1-4 calendar.Duties also involve frequent contact with students outside the classroom in recruiting, advising and mentoring. Faculty members are expected to participate fully in department and college activities, be available to students, and assist in college and department functions, such as the Russian House and various Russian activities. The Department is particularly interested in applicants who can and will advance the college’s goals for diversity, equity and inclusion.
