Associate Director for DEI Initiatives
The Associate Director for DEI Initiatives advises the Director on all climate, access, and inclusion related matters at the Counseling Center, assumes a leadership role in enhancing the professional competence of Center staff in working with students from diverse backgrounds, and serves as a consultant to the other Health & Wellness offices (and Student Affairs more broadly) regarding issues of equity, access, and inclusion. They collaborate frequently with leadership in the Office of Student Diversity Programs, the new social justice center, and other areas of the college to strengthen our connections with diverse student groups and develop programs to better support historically marginalized and underrepresented members of our community. The Associate Director acts as administrative leader of the office in the Director’s absence, represents the Counseling Center on campus committees where their expertise is requested, and assists the Director with planning and policy making. Finally, the Associate Director provides direct clinical and consultation services to the Skidmore community, with a special focus on supporting our BIPOC students.
Doctoral degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology or Master’s Degree in Social Work, with NYS license as a Psychologist or LCSW within one year of hire.
A minimum of 4-5 years of post-terminal degree clinical experience with an understanding of a traditional college aged population. Demonstrated experience in working with individuals from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds is essential. Experience with rapid assessment, risk management, and brief therapy are also crucial. Must have the capacity to practice independently, to collaborate effectively with individuals of different backgrounds and abilities, and to provide skilled supervision of clinical staff as needed.
Requires knowledge of racial and ethnic identity development, social justice, race-related disparities in access to healthcare, and strategies for promoting equity and inclusivity in a higher education environment.
Requires the ability to establish collaborative working relationships with campus partners, student groups, and area mental health resources, and to interact effectively with members of the college and local communities on a daily basis.
Requires strong interpersonal skills, leadership qualities, and the ability to engage professional staff and students at different levels of knowledge and experience on challenging issues.
The salary range for this 11-month position is $75,000-80,000, plus an excellent benefits package.
