Job Description Summary

Responsible for the day-to-day operation and management of an effective financial reporting and internal control program that adequately supports the institution. This includes grants accounting, accounts payable, payments, account reconciliations, journal entries, account creation, and accounting entries for capital improvement projects.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in business or accounting required. CPA preferred.
  2. Five years of experience in management of accounting functions.
  3. Experience in a college environment preferred.
  4. Experience working with a complex financial management system.

  • Maintains the accounting records and controls required to protect all funds of the Foundation.
  • Manages the general accounting, accounts receivable and payable functions of the Foundation.
  • Handles cash management functions of the Foundation.
  • Prepares monthly, quarterly and year-end accounting entries and financial reports.
  • Prepares journal entries and reconciles various general ledger accounts.
  • Interacts with outside, Foundation Board of Directors, independent auditors, college community and project directors in providing understandable financial procedures and information.
  • Serves as liaison with College and Foundation primary contact for the annual audit.
  • Ensures compliance with all College, nonprofit, state, local, and federal regulations and standard accounting procedures.
  • Oversees the financial functions of the Prince George’s Community College Foundation.
  • Provides direction and leadership in accounting policies review and changes.
  • Recommends and participates in the development of policies and procedures in the accounting area.
  • Oversees the unclaimed property reporting required by the State.
  • Monitors restricted fund programs of the College.
  • Maintains the chart of accounts for the Foundation.
  • Assist with financial statement preparation and prepare required external audit work.
  • Works with Office of Institutional Advancement staff to reconcile and ensure accuracy and efficiency of transactional data entries.

Job Requirements

  1. Must be available to work Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Overtime may be required. Work schedule subject to change based on the needs of the department. Alternative schedule is at the discretion of the supervisor.
  2. Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
  3. As required by the 1986 Immigration Act, be prepared to present acceptable documentation showing your identity and that you are a U.S. citizen or an alien who is authorized to work.
  4. A background investigation will be conducted prior to offer of employment. A signed authorization for release of personal information will be required if selected for an interview.
