Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities
The Senior Program Manager for the newly forming Liver Institute, under the leadership of the Institute Director, will be responsible for key functional areas: oversight of grant management, research operations, and strategic planning. This positions will be responsible for day to day oversight of the Institutes financial and personnel resources. Beyond the day to day, the Senior Program Manager works with the Institute Director to implement strategic initiatives and programs consistent with the School of Medicine, Health System, and University’s strategic plans. This position is a dual report to the Director of the Liver Institute and Associate Administrator for Research in Internal Medicine. This position will ensure management of sponsored research conforms to sponsoring agency, university, and School of Medicine Office of Research Administration requirements. Specific areas of focus include: oversee center operations: develop, promote, and manage center research training and safety programs. Manage project management and research coordination staff. Oversee pre and post award grant management of Liver Institute funding; working closely with department research administration staff. Support the Institute Director in coordinating research recruitment, retention, and development of new research programs within the Institute. Establish and maintain mechanisms for internal and external grant reviews, develop institute reporting and metrics to inform strategic planning and performance; collaborate with School of Medicine and other VCU / VCUHS entities to accelerate clinical trial start-up timelines. Minimum Hiring Standards
Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, finance, or science related field or equivalent education and experience (8+ years of experience in Research Administration) . Experience working in a Hepatology research and clinical environment Required Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in research administration with significant experience in all facets of pre and post award: proposal preparation and submission, administrative and financial management, effort reporting, close-out, record keeping, etc. Prior supervisory experience required. Required. Skills: Ability to exercise independent judgement in decision making, program management, and interpretation of complex rules and regulations Dedication to leading staff that provide high levels of customer service is required. Must have strong analytic problem solving, and time management skills. Must be able to manage multiple projects and make staff assignments to effectively handle changes in work assignments, complete priorities, and deadlines. Proficiency with computers and computer software and the ability to learn new systems quickly is required. Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment Preferred Hiring Standards
Preferred Skills and Experience: Master’s degree in Business, Health Administration Minimum 5 years of experience working in a Hepatology research environment Prior experience developing and delivering training in both large and small settings preferred Experience developing and maintaining guidance documents and resources materials.
