The Department of English at the University of Southern Maine invites applications for Part-Time Faculty positions in ENG 100 College Writing and/or ENG 102 Academic Writing. The Fall semester runs from August 30 – December 17, 2021. The applicant will be required to teach at least one (and as many as three) ENG 100/102 courses. ENG 100 and ENG 102 are three credit courses taught either M/W, T/Th, or once a week. Classes are offered at various times between the hours of 8:00 am and 9:30 pm on either the Portland or Gorham campus. While some sections may be taught online, please note that we cannot guarantee an instructor’s preference for an online modality.

Responsibility: Teach at least one (and as many as three) 3 credit course – ENG 100 College Writing (Composition)/ENG 102 Academic Writing

Part-time faculty members are paid on a credit hour basis based on prior college teaching experience. In addition, USM employees can use their USM Card to access the library, Cigna Employee Assistance Plan, and fitness center(s). USM also offers part-time faculty the opportunity for development frequently through our Center for Collaboration and Development (CCD) and the chance to get an online teaching certification and training through CTEL, in addition to other developmental opportunities open to all staff throughout the year.

Must have experience teaching at the college level. Must have a master’s or doctoral degree in English or a related field as defined by the hiring committee.
