Position Description

This is an excellent opportunity for a dynamic, innovative and equity minded individual to join the Simmons University Division of Student Affairs at a pivotal time in our history. The Director will provide strategic leadership for the Center for Leadership and Engagement (currently the Office of Student Leadership and Activities) with a focus on empowering students to practice Everyday Leadership™, social responsibility, mutual respect and purposeful engagement. The Director will report to the Assistant Dean with a dotted reporting line to Vice President, Women's Leadership for work done in partnership with the Institute for Inclusive Leadership. The Director will have a percentage of time dedicated to enhancing the relationship between the Center and the Simmons University Institute for Inclusive Leadership identifying opportunities to engage Simmons students and develop creative leadership experiences for youth leaders outside of the University. The Director will work with experts across the university to develop and implement a Simmons University student leadership development model with the goal of closing the opportunity gap, enhancing the competency level of student organization leaders and providing opportunities for the general student body to develop their leadership skills. Further, the Director will work in partnership with the Director of the Multicultural Center to identify opportunities to increase leadership development opportunities for a diverse student body.

As the lead for the Center for Leadership and Engagement, the Director will also oversee orientation and first year programming and student organization training and development in addition to managing the evolution of the engagement platform, the Hub, run on the Presence platform. The Director will supervise a Program Coordinator and an Administrative Assistant as well as several student employees.

Primary Duties (90%):
  • Provide strategic leadership for the division including establishing goals and metrics and coordinating annual reporting and assessment.
  • Supervise Center staff and student workers.
  • Manage day to day operations of the brand new Center space in the School of Management building.
  • Collaborate with campus partners on the design and implementation of the Simmons student leadership development model integrating Everyday Leadership™ and embracing leadership as an enabler for wellbeing.
  • Oversee coordination and implementation of First Bite (fall orientation), Welcome Days, first-year programming, Family Weekend and graduate and online student welcome events.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Community Engagement on alternative spring break experiences and opportunities to produce programming on socially responsible and purposeful leadership.
  • Provide strategic leadership for the roll-out and enhancement of the Hub, student engagement platform including working academic partners to develop co-curricular pathways.
  • Coordinate fall opening activities and logistics in partnership with campus and community partners.


Institute for Inclusive Leadership Duties (10%):
  • Serve as a liaison to the Institute for Inclusive Leadership ensuring a deeply collaborative and connected partnership including attending meetings and participating in Institute programming and day-to-day activities.
  • Serve as an integral partner with the Institute including engaging in fundraising, grant exploration and business development opportunities.
  • Design and implement leadership development programming and events both for Simmons University students and the broader community.
  • Serve as a contributing member of the Simmons Leadership Conference planning team.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree or related experience preferred.
  • Three to five years of related experience.
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations of students and diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing leadership development programs and empowering students to realize their potential as leaders within the institution and beyond.
  • Experience working with student organizations, orientation and first year programs and development transformational co-curricular experiences.
  • Experience working with student engagement platforms. Experience implementing these platforms is a plus.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
