The Department ofOncology, Biostatistics and Bioinformatics seeks a Biostatistician who will carry out,under supervisionof facultymembersor aPrincipalBiostatistician,statisticalanalysesofclinicalandlaboratorystudies. Thisindividualalsoparticipatesin thedesignofclinicalandlaboratorystudieswithsupervisionasabove as well as utilizesstandardandnon-standardbiostatisticsorbioinformaticsmethodologiesin thedesignofstudiesandtheproductionofstatisticalanalyses. They will collaborate withother biostatisticiansandinvestigatorsin thepreparationofpresentationsandpublications and functionsalsoincludeworking onmethodologicresearchof thefaculty.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Consultswithclinicalandlaboratoryinvestigatorstodetermine theirneedswithrespecttostatisticaldesign of studies in collaboration with a member of the faculty and/or a Principal Biostatistician.
  • Carriesoutappropriatemethodologic proceduresfor statisticalanalysis;overalldescriptive statistics;exploratory data analyses,including graphs summary statistics and necessary transformations; and confirmatory data analyses, including statistical tests and/or models.
  • Performssamplesize andpower calculations,generatesrandomizationschema,andpreparesstatisticalsectionsfor researchprotocolsandmanuscripts.
  • Prepareswrittenreportsofstatisticalanalyses,includingrelevantstatisticaltheory,references,methods, results andconclusions.
  • Writesstatisticaldesign,methods,andanalysissectionsfor researchproposals.
  • Writescomputer codetoevaluatestudydesignsand toaccomplishtheactualstatisticalanalyses.
  • Interpretsandanalyzestheresultsofstatisticalanalyses.Preparesinterimandfinalreportsofstudies.
  • Participatesinregularlyscheduledmeetingswithstudyinvestigatorsandteam.Prepares progress reports as needed.
  • Maintainappropriatesystemsfor databaseassociatedmanagement.
  • Keepabreastof technicalandacademic resourcesrelatedto the methodology ofstatisticalanalyses.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Masters degree in biostatistics, statistics, mathematics, or related field.
  • Minimum of 1 years of related experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctoral level degree.
  • Experienced in cancer clinical trials and/or other cancer-related studies including study design and data analysis preferred.

Special Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities/Competencies:

    Thorough understanding of computers. Expert knowledge of procedural-oriented statistical languages, such as SAS, Splus, R, and/or SPSS. Knowledge of other programming languages, such as FORTRAN, PASCAL, or C, is helpful.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in consulting with researchers and understanding their problems.
  • Excellent writing and verbal skills in the preparation and presentation of reports.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to details are required.

Starting Salary Range: $52,495 - $72,210 annually (commensurate with experience)

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
