Job Description Summary

The School of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Aquatic Sciences at Auburn University is seeking candidates for a Post-Doctoral Fellow to work both independently and as part of a team to conduct scientific research on oyster breeding. This position is located at the Auburn University Shellfish Lab in Dauphin Island, Alabama. The individual selected for the position will be expected to help identify relevant questions, design and implement field and laboratory experiments to test those questions, conduct statistical analyses of the results, publish manuscripts in scientific journals, present research findings at professional, stakeholder, and agency meetings, and prepare proposals for additional extramural funding of the research program. This is a benefit eligible, non-tenure track position. The appointment is for an initial period of one year with a possibility of continuance up to a maximum of four years depending on performance and funding availability.

Minimum Qualifications

The minimum qualification is an earned Ph.D. in Biology, Aquaculture, Fisheries, Natural Resources, or closely related field at the time employment begins. The Postdoctoral Fellow is expected to conduct research designed to improve oyster production through genetic selection development of lines adapted to changing environment (e.g. thermal tolerant, pH tolerant, etc.) to enhance oyster grow-out performance. Selected candidates must have experience working with shellfish spawning and selective breeding, experience with analyzing data sets, and experience with manuscript preparation and publication. The individual selected for the position must be able to meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States by the start date and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.
