Portland Community College's Office of Planning & Capital Construction (P&CC) is looking for an Office Assistant who will perform a wide variety of office and administrative functions in support of a diverse projects-focused team. This position supports a fast paced team with project related assignments, scheduling and coordinating meetings, and helps to maintain the forward momentum of the department.

This is a temporary position through June 30, 2023.

Candidate Profile

These qualifications, skills and abilities are critical for success in this position.
Throughout the screening process, you will be evaluated based on the demonstration of these qualifications.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Gmail, etc). Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience scheduling meetings, maintaining and updating calendar appointments, and coordinating meeting locations with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and fluctuating workload.
  • Experience working with people from differing backgrounds and different levels within an organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new software applications

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years of office assistant experience (c ollege or business school training may be substituted for up to two years of the experience requirement).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of design and construction project processes.
  • Understanding of PCC’s organizational structure.
  • Experience setting up virtual meetings on a variety of platforms.
  • Experience with requests for quotes or proposals from consultants, suppliers, or vendors.
  • Knowledge of PCC’s procurement process.
  • Basic understanding of construction plans.

Position Grade 15 Starting Salary Expectations The first two steps of the range are: $35,994 to $37,074 per year. Higher salary placement may be available based on qualifications, experience and internal equity. Position Grade Salary Range $35994 to $57759 Annual Salary FTE 1 PCC Benefits

Additionally, PCC provides a tuition waiver for yourself, domestic partner, and dependent children under 24 years of age. Partial tuition reimbursement for yourself at other accredited institutions (full-time employees only).

Paid Leave: (Pro-rated by FTE for Part-Time Employees)

  • Starts at 8 hours of vacation leave per month (additional vacation hours with years of service)
  • 8 hours of sick leave per month
  • 24 hours of additional personal leave days per year
  • 11 Paid holidays

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements


  • Positions in this job family typically work in an office setting but may be assigned more physical duties such as transporting office supplies and equipment.


  • Position involves sitting for extended periods of time while working at a computer terminal.
  • Some positions may involve limited local travel.
