Minimum Qualifications
  1. A graduate or professional degree in a field relevant to the position OR must possess an appropriate combination of educational credentials and related work experience.
  2. Three (3) years of full-time professional experience directly related to Fraternity & Sorority Life or related context, two years of a graduate assistantship may count as one year of full-time experience.
  3. Demonstrated experience with engagement and advising of students in a co-curricular university setting.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge and skills in campus-wide event and program planning and execution.
  5. Strong knowledge and/or experience with Greek-lettered organizations on a college campus including current trends, educational programming, risk reduction, and well-being.
  6. Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; experience working with students and staff in the development of inclusive programs.

N/A Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Assistant Director of Campus Activities, Fraternity & Sorority Life, will report to the Associate Director and will work as a member of a larger team of staff within Campus Activities. The Assistant Director will assist with the development, administration, and implementation of comprehensive education, programming, and advisement of 30+ recognized fraternities and sororities at Appalachian State University. This position will assist in providing advising support and administrative direction to four governing councils ( NPHC, MGC, PHC, and IFC ). Our goal is to maximize opportunities for educational enrichment through a fraternal experience while anticipating and managing the increasingly complex challenges that face our organizations.

Duties and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the following:
  1. Serve as the primary advisor to two of the four governing councils; Interfraternity Council ( IFC ), Multicultural Greek Council ( MGC ), National Pan-Hellenic Council ( NPHC ), and Panhellenic Council ( PHC ).
  2. Advise a portfolio of chapters across all four councils and the Order of Omega Honor Society.
  3. Provide advisement and oversight of large-scale campus programming initiatives across the entire fraternity and sorority community.
  4. Maintain organizational records including academic, conduct, and ATLAS requirements.
  5. Work with campus advisors to define their role and responsibilities of campus advisors; create in-service training opportunities and provide resources to collaboratively advise organizations.
  6. Plan and implement the annual new member education program, STRIDE, with the Governing Councils.
  7. Serve on campus-wide committees to deepen student engagement initiatives including Welcome to App, Homecoming, the Graduate Assistantship Preview Program ( GAPP ).
  8. Assist in the development and coordination of risk reduction and wellness programming.
  9. Provide support and implementation of policies and guidelines for fraternities and sororities, to ensure compliance with university, state, and federal laws.
  10. Serve as a liaison between Inter/National Offices and Chapter Advisors.
  11. Coordinate and facilitate annual leadership retreats, conferences, and workshops as needed.
  12. Serve as the secondary supervisor to the Fraternity and Sorority Life Graduate Assistant and FSL Project Assistants.
  13. Assist in the development of professional and collaborative relationships including shared programming, communication processes, and leadership opportunities) with campus colleagues, particularly Housing & Residence Life, Intercultural Student Affairs, Dean of Students Office, Student Conduct, and University Police.
  14. This team member has the opportunity to teach selected Leadership Development courses offered through the Leadership Education minor.
  15. Evening and weekend work are expected as part of a flexible work schedule.
