Scope of Job:
The MFA program at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) has two online courses in the immediate need of instructors. We will hire one or two Part-Time Lecturers to teach courses in our Creative Writing program in Fall of 2021. One is a graduate course in our MFA program. Responsibilities includes delivering quality instruction to the graduate students enrolled in a readings course on Eco-Writing, an open-genre special topics class that is a craft-based look at contemporary nature writing, including works that look at environmental justice, climate change, and environmental racism. The class will involve an examination of works on the syllabus and some generative work by the students based on discussions and the readings. This is an asynchronous online course. The second course is an undergraduate 4000-level course in Writing for Performance. This is also an open-genre workshop/special topics course guiding the student to generate and analyze writing that works well in live settings. The course mode is online synchronous. UTRGV faculty will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to student success and to advancing the university, college, and program missions, as well as a commitment to UTRGV's guiding principles (http://www.utrgv.edu/strategic-plan/), which include promoting access to postsecondary education to a diverse student body and to become one of the largest and most successful Hispanic-serving emerging research institutions in the U.S.A.

Minimum Qualifications:
An MFA or Terminal degree in English is required. For graduate teaching, a record of publication is necessary for graduate status.

Discipline Specific Required Qualifications:
Part-time lecturers hired will be required to attend online training on use of Blackboard and online teaching tools. The course is offered online and may be administered away from campus and the university area. Inability to complete training may result in cancellation of assignment.

Additional Information:
UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code ยง51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
