Overview
The Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation Counseling (sper.usu.edu) is seeking outstanding candidates to fill a tenure track Assistant Professor position in Special Education with an emphasis in Distance Education Special Education Teacher preparation.

This is a full-time 9-month academic year position. Review of applicants will begin October 15, 2021 and continue until the position is filled. The anticipated start date is August 2022. This position is eligible for H-1B visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities
Serve as a member of the Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation faculty including:
  1. Coordinating the department’s Online Practical Teacher Training (OPTT) distance education teacher training program,
  2. Teaching on-campus and distance undergraduate and/or graduate classes in special education,
  3. Supervising undergraduate and graduate student field experiences,
  4. Carry out an active line of research and publication,
  5. Advising and mentoring graduate students,
  6. Collaborating in department and university program development and committees, and
  7. Seeking extramural funding to support graduate students and research.


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  1. Doctorate in special education or related field (e.g., psychology). ABD will be considered.
  2. Direct service experience with individuals with disabilities.
  3. A history of positive working relationships with teachers, clinicians, administrators, and faculty.
  4. Evidence of the potential to be a productive scholar and researcher.
  5. Evidence of the potential to be an excellent college-level teacher.
  6. Evidence of potential to secure external funds.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates who have one or more of the following qualifications:
  1. Expertise in designing/coordinating online teacher training programs.
  2. Expertise in supervising field experiences of preservice special education teachers.
  3. Experience collaborating with public school personnel.
  4. Experience in technology-enhanced college teaching and distance education (both synchronous and asynchronous modalities).
  5. Expertise in program evaluation.
  6. Public school special education teaching experience.
  7. Expertise in multicultural competencies.

The Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation is recognized nationally for both personnel preparation and research. The Department offers special education degree programs at the bachelors, masters, and doctoral levels. The bachelor’s program prepares graduates to teach students with mild/moderate disabilities, severe disabilities, and/or young children with disabilities. The department offers three master’s programs: a Master of Science, that includes a Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) approved course sequence, a Master of Education in Special Education, and a Master of Rehabilitation Counseling.
