The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) invites applications for a Clinical Assistant Professor or Lecturer to assist with undergraduate course development and instruction for online and hybrid courses in the areas of interdisciplinary studies and critical thinking offered through the College of Professional Studies (CPS).  This is a full-time 9-month position with optional summer teaching opportunities.

JOB DESCRIPTION/REQUIREMENTS:

Position Available 

UAH is seeking a Clinical Assistant Professor or Lecturer for the department of Professional Studies to assist with undergraduate course development and instruction for online and hybrid courses in the areas of interdisciplinary studies and critical thinking.

The incumbent will work closely with the Dean and faculty members to develop and promote this new academic area.  The individual will contribute to the mission, vision, and core values of the College by teaching in accordance with best practices and UAH/CPS guidelines.  Courses may include Theories and Practices of Adult Learning; Academic Writing; Interdisciplinary Perspectives & Critical Thinking; Media Literacy; Technology, Science & Society; Interdisciplinary Research & Application; Inquiry and Learning; and Capstone Research Thesis. 

Responsibilities of the Position

  • Teaching undergraduate Professional Studies courses;
  • Developing quality online and hybrid curriculum following UAH and College guidelines;
  • Providing leadership and commitment to build and maintain high-quality degree programs;
  • Advising and mentoring students;
  • Collaborating with colleagues to conduct program and course planning and revisions;
  • Attending meetings, training sessions, and recruitment opportunities; and
  • Providing service to the University, College and Profession as applicable.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Clinical Assistant Professor – Ph.D. in the field of Interdisciplinary Studies, Psychology, Sociology, Political Science, Philosophy, Leadership, or a supporting field of study;
  • Lecturer - Master’s Degree in the field of Interdisciplinary Studies, Psychology, Sociology, Political Science, Philosophy, Leadership, or a supporting field of study;
  • Strong academic writing and research skills;
  • Teaching experience at the college level both online and face-to-face;
  • Knowledge of best practices for teaching, advising, and mentoring traditional and adult learners;
  • Experience in designing and facilitating online and hybrid delivery courses;
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary subject matter.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two or more years teaching experience in a higher education environment;
  • Knowledge and experience collaborating with community colleges, veteran organizations, and/or government/industry on educational partnerships and/or scholarship opportunities.

Rank and Salary: This position is a non-tenure track, 9-month Clinical Assistant Professor or lecturer position with optional summer teaching opportunities.

Salary will be competitive and commensurate to rank, experience, and qualifications.  An excellent comprehensive benefits package is available.
