The New Student Registration Specialist is an integral member of the Office of the Registrar responsible for course selection and registration for new first-year students and charged with educating students and the campus community on degree planning at Carthage College. The New Student Registration Specialist must demonstrate excellent customer service skills, the ability to collaborate across constituency groups and embrace the use of technology to aid in retention efforts.

Essential Functions: 

  • Coordinate course selection and pre-registration for first-year students for fall and spring semesters
  • Collaborate with faculty members to maintain curriculum guides to assist advisors with degree planning
  • Collaborate with the Office of Admissions for Future Freshmen events
  • Help students and parents navigate questions regarding the registration process, degree requirements, and college policies 
  • Provide support for faculty members during advising and registration time
  • Create and manage degree planning and academic advising guides on behalf of the Registrar’s Office
  • Serve as a course instructor for the zero-credit College Success Seminar, a 7-week course for first year students acclimated with Carthage, along with Student Success Advisors
  • Coordinate AB/IB/CLEP exam score processing
  • Assist with new student file transfer and indexing 
  • Identify areas of focus in retention efforts with particular attention on first-year students 
  • Provide excellent customer service to all members of the college community 
  • Work with the college Registrar and staff projects as assigned 
  • Perform other duties as assigned 

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

Preferred Experience:

  • One to three years higher education experience
  • Some experience in academic advising and degree planning
  • Knowledge of transfer practice and policies

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume, and confidential service environment
  • Possess sensitivity to appropriately respond to the needs of a diverse population
