The Faculty of Sustainability at Leuphana University of Lüneburg invites applications for the following junior professorship with tenure track, funded by the “Joint Federal Government-Länder Tenure-Track Programe”:

Public Law and European Law with specific focus on Sustainability
(W1 with tenure track leading to W2)

For this position, we are seeking a committed early stage researcher who shows promise of excellence in teaching and research as well as unique ideas to impact their field and society. Women are especially invited to apply. 

You are a highly engaged researcher in the filed of Public law with a specific focus on European law. Further, you can link your legal expertise to societal challenges of a sustainable development. Among others, you have an interest in environmental and/or energy law. You already published in national and international journals (e.g. Zeitschrift für Umweltrecht, Natur und Recht, Journal of Environmental Law, Europarecht, Common Market Law Review) and began to develop your own research agenda that integrates a focus on sustainability related challenges. With your agenda, you want to contribute to the field of sustainability science by applying a Public and European law perspective e.g. on repsonsible use of non-renewable resources with concepts of intra- and intergenerational justice. Therefore, you are already undertaking interdisciplinary research within third party funding projects. You already gained some experience in applying for funding and you show the ability to develop your own third-party funding strategy for future research projects. Further you are motiviated to deepen your interest for inter- and transdisciplinary research and teaching in the faculty of sustainability or other institutions within Leuphana e.g. Law School. Collaboration is key to the faculty of sustainability and should be crucial for you. Thus, you are motivated to undertake research or teaching projects together with colleagues from other institutes of the faculty of sustainability and other faculties/institutes at Leuphana, as well as actors outside academia are essentiell.

As a junior professor you contribute to innovation towards sustainable development based on excellent research and teaching. For example you are engaged in a continuous quality improvement of bachelor and master study programmes of the faculty of sustainability. At best you already gained experience in supervising bachelor and master thesis and showed engagement in teaching.

This call is adressed to early career researchers who have completed their PhD and are currently at an early stage of their career, but who have not yet completed a habilitation or other achievements being considered equivalent to a habilitation.

Formal requirements are a university degree in an area relevant to the open position as junior professor (according to § 30 Niedersächsisches Hochschulgesetz (NHG)): a German university law degree (erstes Staatsexamen) with a specific focus on European law; your aptitude for teaching; your ability to engage in independent academic research as demonstrated by the outstanding quality of your dissertation in the field of public law with a specific focus on european law.

The junior professorship will be filled in accordance with pay grade W1 and is initially limited to a period of three years. The position will be extended for an additional three years, subject to a positive academic evaluation (in accordance with the guidelines for the mid-term evaluation of junior professors of Leuphana University of Lüneburg https://www.leuphana.de/fileadmin/user_upload/newspool/stellenausschreibungen/professuren/Richtlinie_zur_Zwischenevaluation_von_JPs_Leuphana.pdf).
