Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon and Leuphana University of Lüneburg jointly invite applications for a junior professorship in

SIMULATION OF MICROSTRUCTURE EVOLUTION IN TECHNOLOGICAL PRODUCTION PROCESSES (W1)

You explore the field of modeling and simulation of microstructure evolution from a theoretical basis and apply the methods/tools to technological production processes. You will expand and enrich the existing modelling approaches at the Institute of Product and Process Innovation (PPI) at Leuphana University of Lüneburg and the Institute of Materials Mechanics at the Helmholtz-Zentrum hereon GmbH, where you will contribute particularly in the understanding of phase formation and microstructure evolution in metallic lightweight materials during thermo-mechanical processes, e.g. solid state materials processing, forming as well as welding processes. In doing so, you will address specific research areas – in particular modeling the microstructure evolution including static and dynamic recrystallization, diffusion and phase transformation via the phase-field or other methods. You will preferably expand this research area with data-driven and multi-scale approaches. Your research work takes place in an interdisciplinary environment, in close cooperation with scientists in materials research. At Helmholtz Zentrum Hereon, you will become member of our team in the department Solid State Materials Processing at the Institute of Materials Mechanics, where you contribute to the research and development goals of the program “Materials Systems Engineering - Scale-Bridging Designed Materials: From Fundamentals to Systems”.

For this position, we are seeking a committed early stage researcher who shows promise of excellence in teaching and research as well as unique ideas to impact their field and society. Qualified women are especially invited to apply.

Your academic work gives evidence of innovative contributions to teaching and research, your talent for cooperating with partners inside and outside academia and your strong commitment to interdisciplinary dialogue.

Formal requirements are (according to § 30 (2) of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act (NHG)) a university degree in a discipline relevant to the open position; your aptitude for teaching; and your ability to engage in independent academic research as demonstrated by the outstanding quality of your dissertation.

The junior professorship will be established as a shared professorship equally allocated to the Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon and the Leuphana University of Lüneburg, including a teaching engagement of four contact hours (4 Lehrveranstaltungsstunden) at Leuphana University of Lüneburg.

At Hereon and Leuphana you will find an academic community that is open to changes in perspective and cultivates the dialogue among the different disciplines as well as between research and practice. With spirit and initiative, we address the challenges of civil society in the 21st century. Professors at Hereon and Leuphana foster the awareness of gender and diversity aspects in teaching as well as research.

For further information, please contact the dean of the faculty, Prof. Dr. Peter Niemeyer (peter.niemeyer@leuphana.de) or the head of department Solid State Materials Processing at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon, Prof. Dr. Benjamin Klusemann (benjamin.klusemann@leuphana.de).

Hereon and Leuphana University are equal opportunities employers.

Please submit your application consisting of the following materials in two separate PDF files: a) motivation letter, CV, copies of academic degrees and b) three relevant publications.

Applications should be sent preferably by email using the keyword Microstructure Evolution to beko@leuphana.de or to the President of Leuphana University of Lüneburg, Post Box 2440, 21314 Lüneburg, Germany, by August 29, 2021. Please be aware that we cannot return application documents sent physically.

By submitting your application, you consent to your data being stored and processed for the purpose of the recruitment process. Please note our Data Protection Notice for Applicants
